Memorial Day
by usmcgal at 5/24/2008 8:27:51 PM

As a Marine vet I hope that all of you celebrating this Memorial Day weekend and remember the actual reason for it. It is a time to remember all of those veterans who have served and died so that you can keep the freedom and rights you have today.

I sincerely hope that you all keep the troops serving now in your thoughts and prayers today and everyday.
What we have wasn't free. A lot of men and women died to give you what you take for granted.

In Flanders Field the poppies blow,
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place and in the sky,
The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead, short days ago
Loved and were loved and now we lie
In Flanders Field.

I memorized that poem in the 7th grade, 51 years ago and I still remember it.
It would be nice if others would.

Thank a vet for his service to our country. You'd be surprised how much they would appreciate it.
