Intolerance
by evrydyprncss at 6/15/2008 7:08:53 PM

What is up with these idiots who assume that redneck = ignorant and inbred. I am far from stupid and while I never completed college I know that I could hold my own in almost any environment. I read insatiably and comprehend everything I read with no difficulty. I hold a job and pay my own bills. I live alone and enjoy my own company. I don't need to be surrounded by people to feel worthy. I don't feel the need to ridicule and belittle people because believe or act differently from me.

People do this because it's a title that has different meaning to different people. On one hand you have a comedian who puts a negative spin on the term redneck, Example; "you might be a redneck if you ___" Then you the song; "I'm a redneck woman". So our society gets mixed impression of “redneck”. Back in the in the day the term Redneck was a title of southern crop farmer. They called them this because the back of their necks were red from the sun while they stooped over reaping and sowing. Same goes for a "cracker" which was a cattle farmer and called so because of the cracking sound their whips made while herding cattle.

I grew up with people claiming to be "redneck" but the truth is there is nothing "country" or "Redneck" about them according to the root definition. They had never lived on a farm, worked a harvest, ridden a horse or even held a live chicken. It's a stereotype title that people learn in high school. If you listen to rock music you’re a rocker, if you surf then you’re a surfer, if you smoke pot then you’re a pot head and so on. Or as the comedian said... If you have a complete set of salad bowls that say "cool whip", then you MIGHT be a redneck. With that being said, I'd avoid popular titles and stereotypes and just be the original.

And if you must have a title, I'd keep “Every Day Princes", it is original and its all you! Unless of course you are a crop farmer or have those cool whip bowls. lol
