I've wondered about the winking thing for some time now. Is it that people feel it's less effort or less of an investment to wink? Perhaps it's purely a matter of time conservation in this ever-busy world in which we live? By conserving time with a simple wink, they can wink at more people?

I can only speculate at why people wink. However, I've got some analogies for winks. Winks are like glancing across a busy street during rush hour, glancing at a person when they're hustling to their next class, or maybe it's more like waving to a person in a dimly lit bar with 100s of people criss-crossing and chit chatting in between the waver and the wavee.

I don't know why people wink exactly, maybe there are multiple reasons. Although I do believe the liklihood of being spotted, let alone acknowledged and remembered, is pretty slim.

I also know that as grownups we need to speak to several people on a daily basis. Some times we must speak whether we want to or not, like to the boss or a co-worker we lack an appreciation for.

Is it that much time, effort and energy to open your cyber mouth (email!) and write a sentence or two to someone you think *might* lead to the relationship your profile says you want?

I just felt like venting a little, I guess.

Hi, I'm not much for winks either until I got an e-mail that said, "Thanks for winking back. I don't like to go to the trouble of writing a lady if she is not interested in me. I give her time to check our my profile as I did hers and if she winks back then I know she may be interested." Good theory, Bud! Jan
