Thank You Bob Marley
What can we gather from the life of Bob Marley? without even bringing your lips to speak his name, the melodies that he so passionately sung and strummed causes even the simplest mind to begin to evoke deeper thots than what they draw from in their lives from day to day. Some called him a radical, a nuisance, a trouble-maker, but still w/ out the sun even settting; he could run into a man or woman that would hail him as a prophet, a revolutionary, a hero to an oppressed people; a mouth piece to the struggle and the regaining of Black awareness and strength. I say that he was indeed all of these things, he plucked his way into the hearts of many thru his conscious lyrics and smart melodies and groove-able rhythms and we began to open our minds to a new spectrum of TRUTH. He was a nuisance to those who still seek to opress the minds of the weaker who by choice or by environment lack the knowledge of their own depth and capacity to conquer, and still he was a trouble maker because he stirred up the emotion of a people to change, deeper than an ethnic group or a culture he stirred up the hearts of the world to begin to open their souls to a TRUTH that for some time laid before them, but they had never tapped into. There is something about TRUTH that no matter how someone deciphers it; that it comes to the same end. AMAZING. I believe he was a radical seeing as though a radical is described as, "marked by a considerable departure from the usual or traditional : extreme b: tending or disposed to make extreme changes in existing views, habits, conditions, or institutions c: of, relating to, or constituting a political group associated with views, practices, and policies of extreme change d: advocating extreme measures to retain or restore a political state of affairs ".. absolutely he was this and more, and in the same breath he was a prophet of the people and a world changer. As we know, I was raised in a Christian household by a pastor of a Baptist church, and as we all know figures such as Bob Marley, Marcus Garvey, Malcom X or even Nelson Mandela are not honored in the religion. However, as a Black descendant in America I could never shut off their impact and contribution to who I am as a young Black woman it is because every man or woman must discover their own TRUTH and that truth will shape the woman or man they seek to be recognized as; that I decided to study their lives and extract from men like Bob Marley the passion and humanity that it takes to change a world. My desire is always to be a woman of great strength and courage and great love who seeks the highest good for others, who posses the secrets of life, this can only be found in the heart of wisdom that teaches through the lives of others and through experience. The TRUTH of Bob Marley's life is that of pure passion and dedication and educating a people and a world of its worth and the intricate way that we all flow together; and it is from his life that I hope to be an agent that causes our people to see themselves in the depth that they posses; in the power that they control and in the capacity to conquer that they hold; to see themselves as beautiful and successful; not the second rate; but the chosen, because thats what they are.
I honor Bob Marley as a prophet as a brother and as a prince who walked among us who desired to point us toward something greater, and I thank God for giving us Bob Marley as a gift even if for a little while, to open nu routes of thought and to encourage even the least of us.
