THE LAND OF ENCHANTMENT REVISITED
by necessaryforu at 8/23/2008 1:28:12 PM

The leaving from Colorado was unhurried and the aspen trees were bright yellow fluff balls in places on the peak to peak between Nederland and Estes Park. I was treating myself to happy feet with a spa pedicure before I began my footloose trek south to visit my dear friend in Ojo Caliente. With sparkling toes and tingling shins and the calloused remnants of high heels soaked off my worn dogs, I maneuvered my car south along I93, destination New Mexico.
The miles traveled easily along the front range of the Rocky Mountains with the peaks glistening in the distance as the sun blessed their work that day, their steadfast groundedness and distant intimidation for the short of breath. I93 to 470 was not my usual route, but my choice that day to avoid the rush hour carbon monoxide poisoning of Denver and instead to maneuver through the rolling hills and bright sunshine to the other side, closer to Colorado Springs. The miles burned along with an overnight stop in Pueblo, CO; then on to Walsenburg the next day and Ojo Caliente.
Brainwork included dissecting relationships, from intimate to almost antagonistic. At times, silence rained upon me and thunderclouds appeared with my emotional release from limiting belief systems that were reflected in benevolent masculine behavior designed to allow me to review life lessons and identify these patterns. Interesting how a bout of tears coincides with thunderclouds and torrential downpour with lightning strikes on all sides as I285 in southern Colorado and northern New Mexico draws me further south.
Ahead looms the sign, “Welcome to New Mexico – The Land of Enchantment.” Being one with the universe and wanting to connect with the magic as advertised, I pulled my car over to the side of the road and asked permission from the nature elementals to partake of the blessing of sage and purple and yellow miniature flowers that were abundantly provided.
With an answer of yes, I placed flowers in my hair and sage in my hands and opened my arms wide to exclaim, “I embrace and receive my initiation into the Land of Enchantment wholeheartedly and unabashedly.” After my own personal rendition of the happy dance, I regained my vehicle (the other one) and continued my journey.
Many miles and hours of journeying through what could pass as desolation, but was actually a cornucopia of desert, cattle, wind and red dirt; I arrived in Carlsbad, New Mexico. The following morning I traveled to Carlsbad Caverns to see this magnificent, natural site that used to be underwater at one point in time. Approaching the visitor center, you turn and can actually envision the ocean lapping into the side of the ridge you are driving on. The remnant of the ocean vision is present still on the land and you can easily see it in the bent grasses and angled trees from the wind caressing the plains and waters of the land.
The caverns themselves were beyond imagination. The stalagmites and columns and pearls and stalactites and drapes took your breath away in the 56 degrees of the surrounding breath of life and unhindered beauty created by no man, only Mother in all her creativity and expression of beauty and joy and elements combined in perfection and aligned in magic.
I stood in the Hall of Giants and felt their breath and life and moved to the Land of Fairies encapsulated in miniscule ripples and flows of magical enchantment. From afar, I beheld a dragon 3 stories high with its belly exposed from the wall of the cavern where it was guarding the Rock of Life and had disguised its head and jaw in the wall above and turned to an ever watchful angle with one open eye gazing below at the pedestrian wonder.
I stopped and breathed deeply in joy and exaltation of what my eyes had clearly identified for my astonished acknowledgement and recognition of accord.
“Lord, Mother of all that is,” I offered a silent prayer, “allow me to remember this moment of this day and tap into this peace and certitude at any time that I stray from my truth and get caught up in the illusion of turbulence, discord, argument, non-alignment and the lower vibrations of anger, frustration and the effort of trying to make something happen vs. allowing something to be present that already is, such as the magic and enchantment of this place.”
At that precise moment a drip from a large stalactite overhead landed on the center of my head and entered my crown chakra with enlightenment that flowed through my own center channel of being all the way down to embrace my sparkling toes and flowed back into the earth through my feet. The tingle and the glow flowed through and out to all particles of my being allowing this memory and this time to be accessed immediately whenever I lose my balance.
What a gift this was for me; the reason for my journey of many hours to this place that I have always wanted to go. What a blessing in my life to take with me on the rest of my journey with my eyes open, my hair tousled by the wind which always drags you around New Mexico easily or against your will and saps your strength or gently pulls that which no longer serves you from the recesses of your mind and will and destiny.
With the gentle caresses of monolithic structures and drips of burgeoning life and deep breaths of contentment, I completed my immersion in the Big Chamber and continued to the Kings and Queens chambers.
I emerged from the womb of the earth, carved many years ago by the sea and created without any human hand involved, a changed being with a drop of earth’s blood flowing through my veins and all channels of my evolving being.
Upon regaining my car, I was enveloped in the sage of my surround and accompanied on my return journey with a new awareness and insight and ability to detach, reconnect and align with that which is most important and memorable for observant neutrality and peaceful, dragon-like patience with all that is. The joy of living in tune with the enchantment and magic ever present in nature and the unhindered world of being a god form without a plan other than existence and experience.
