| i am easily entertained and a cheap date

we had a meeting with the new priest about the scouts and it seems that the drama is finally over. we had to make some big concessions, like me and kimmy not being on the board anymore but at least the church will sponsor us for another year. we didnt do anything wrong, but there r a bunch of powerhungry old coots at the church who the only time they praise people our age is seeing us go off to war.
the troop has grown three times as big since kimmy and i have been assistant scoutmasters but they have made a new rule that u must be 21 to be on the board.
we will still be working with the boys but not in any position to vote on anything. i didnt realize how stressed i was over the whole thing, especially the endless waiting almost all summer for their decision. but now i feel like a weight is off of me. whatever they think, we have done a good job and there are three potential eagle scouts.
i felt so drained after the meeting with the priest that i thought it would chi us all up to go to flushing chinatown to see the fireworks. my family was going and i talked kimmy into going too. even though i live in the cove, my heart is still in new york city.
theres something about going down streets where everyone knows u and asks about ur family and tells u about theirs, and u see high school freshmen that u used to see in pampers haha (my lil bro's friends).
thats the community where i did most of my high school years except senior year. thats the community where i was when 911 happened and every day we lit candles and placed flowers in front of the library and posted photos of community people who were dead or missing.
and guess what, many of the dead in that community were undocumented immigrants and we mourned for them just like we did for the citizens.
i felt so close to everyone tonite, the elders, the lil kids and everyone in between as we watched the fireworks with those oohs and ahhs and my rowdy yelling family and skateboard nemesis kimmy haha.
i felt so happy with something that we didnt pay a penny for. thats what i meant, i'm a cheap date. lol.
even a big city like new york is made of a bunch of little communities each with its own flava.
