Random Acts of Kindness
by niteriter1548 at 2/4/2009 12:53:41 PM

Recently I joined a group on Facebook called "Random Acts of Kindness." The goal is to encourage people to be kinder to each other if only to take the time to say "please" and "thank you." Among my contributions to this "Pay it Foward" cause, for example, is to allow a vehicle trying to get into a long line of traffic to go ahead of me or to step back in a checkout line for someone in back of me who has many fewer items than I do. So minor, yet so appreciated.
Every Super Sunday I volunteer for the "Public Action for the Arts & Education" major fundraiser. PAAE is a charitable organization staffed by volunteers who share a common mission to assist other organizations that offer positive social and cultural alternatives to inner city children. I sell raffle tickets, act as a runner for the live auction, help to set up the tables and/or anything else asked of me to make this event a success. I'm on my feet for 6 or 7 hours, exhausted by the time it is over and dying to take my shoes off, but so exhilarated that I participated, even in a small way, to change these children's lives.
So keep your eyes open for opportunities to perform your own random acts of kindness. The world will be a much better place if you do.
