A Call to Unity
by califsun1 at 3/14/2009 3:14:25 AM

Once mocked for basing a campaign on hope. Told by friends that; it wasn’t time yet, and not his moment. Yet, he continued on the road he was destined to walk on, and today, Barrack Obama accomplished what many men of all colors in this country never thought they would ever see.

Today, what was revealed to us is that a new age of equality; once only sung in longing negro hymns, has become a reality to all of us. Be you; White, Latin, Black, Native American or Asian, all our voices were merged into one song today. Heaven opened it’s doors and windows to let that sweet music merge with those souls that have gone before us; still grasping a chalice of hope, and dreams to be fulfilled.

It is because of their sacrifices we are celebrating today. Those King’s, Kennedy’s, Johnson’s. Individuals among the burnt churches and hangings of the South all sang today.

“The past is prologue,” and “we are destined to repeat the past.” are words of warning from those that saw futures lost because of a lack of hindsight. An alarm to replicate history. But today, what we must acknowledge is what went ahead of us: the many battles fought before many of us being here. The raw hands on plows and hammers. The blood christening foreign soil for this country we live in today. The souls in a primordial soup called the Great Mixing Pot that answered their call, and gave their last measure for us. This is our chance now to contribute our recipe to the mix for future generations to benefit from.

Today we are a witness to renewal. It is a new time to put words into action. This is our chance now to sow the seeds of faith and hope to later reap the harvest of dreams and aspirations fulfilled.

At first light the future is waiting for us to become the United States we really are. The responsibility is upon us as Americans now, and God is watching.

Petty prejudices, conflicting dogmas, and the beliefs of one being superior over an other must not prevail any longer if we are to succeed in this historical regeneration. The idea of a second class citizen must be expelled from our society to never be felt by an other person again.

Our crisis will not end if we bosom our hate for preservation. Our selfishness for our own recompense. Our lack of participation because of idleness. We must stop using leaches to cure an illness that has been bleeding this country for decades.

The pitting of the rich against the middle class and poor for gain and social separation. We are all immigrants here except for the Native Americans in this land, yet we treat each other as if one color belongs here more than the other.
All men are created equal our founders declared. Our outsides may look different but, we all bleed red. Like it or not we are all related.

What this nation needs most of all at this time is respect. A showing of consideration for each other regardless of who we are and who we meet.

The greatest speaker told us to love thy neighbor as ourselves. A Samaritan put value upon a stranger because he saw a man distressed on the road and he needed help. A hand stretched out when the need arises. A kind word of support when required can cure many ills one by one.

As our new president said. “Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America," It’s a call to service. A plea for uniformity and effort among us. One hand helping the other in our towns, hamlets and cities. To build back together what has been torn down. To feel the spirit of a nation united again and to do it good.

We must experience and unite again in a mutual purpose against a common enemy.

In WWII, women worked in factories riveting bombers together. Mexican laborers kept the rail lines going. People from all corners of the nation collecting tires and steel for one purpose: to triumph over world tyranny.

The call of a president to put a man on the moon before the decade was over. “Not because it is easy but, because it is hard.” His words ignited a fire that brought his dream to fruition. Technology never thought possible was our reward, and we left our footprints in the dust of the moon.

Today the words were, "A new era of responsibility" in which we gladly accept duties "to ourselves, our nation, and the world," This is our WWII. This is our space race. We must succeed! We have no one else to count on but ourselves. You, me, our fellow citizens.

From “The shot heard around the world” to a celebration seen by the planet; we are the focus of hope, self-reliance and success to many nations. As we were in the time of our nations birth to the renaissance we started today: all eyes are upon us.

This has all come to pass because one man had more faith, more hope and more desire to make America whole. His adversities only tempered his will to succeed. The fire is now hot in the hearth for us to forge the change we have been seeking for so long. Let us fashion a sword to fit our hands, to hold it high and say: “I’m proud to be an American!”
