On Good Friday at Ayot St. Peter in Herfordshire England, they ring the Nine Tailors for Our Lord's death. Ringing the Nine Tailors (or tellers)is an old custom that is used to inform the townspeople when someone has died. The bell rings nine times if a man has died , six times for a woman, and three times for a child. Then, after a brief pause, the bell rings again to indicate the age of the dead person. So, on Good Friday at Ayot St. Peter, the bell rings nine times for Christ; then the bell rings another thirty-nine times to mark his age.
