Suppression is the root of unhappiness by Luke (blogger on myspace)
Category: Life
3 years ago people would ask me why I was so happy, my answer was always "because I'm not married and can do as I please". However I was practically married to Sue and was just as happy, that was the point that I realized I was happy because I didnt have to suppress who I really am. I could be myself instead of being what people expected me to be, the day I realized that was the day that my life changed forever. I have several married friends who have girlfriends or boyfriends on the side. When I ask them what makes you so happy when you are with them, their answer is always "I can be me around her and she loves it, I dont have to mold myself into what my family or wife/husband expects me to be, I feel alive when I am with her."Suppression is the root of unhappiness. What do you think?Do you seek personal happiness or do you seek being what you are expected and conditioned to be?
I agree that suppression is the root of unhappiness.
We have all heard that phrase "trust your gut". Well, from the things i have been studying in these last 5 years I have come to believe that that "gut" feeling is God/the nonphysical/your higher self(fill in your preference) is trying to tell you something about the choice your are about to make. When you suppress that gut feeling (which society encourages us to do) and do something that you believe will be more please to others than yourself, then you are going off course to what your higher self(your true self) really wants you to do/be. Usually you have some sort of negative feeling attached with that suppressing choice however subtle it may be.
Most people have become desensitized to their “inner guidance”. There is hope however. With practice (prayer/meditation/holding no thought for 5 minutes etc) you can regain you connection to your “gut”(body). Making choices from there, becoming more true to yourself and thus living a happier and healthier life.
I am currently on this journey of living from your gut. And let me tell you, it can be scary and takes practice to over come the programming. But let me tell you it certainly has been worth it.
Hugs and Kisses
Amy
