Base Ball Time
by smokejustis at 4/26/2009 4:19:43 AM

It's been an interesting spring. I'm forming a Vintage Base Ball team. In case you wondered....Vintage Base Ball (it was two words then) is baseball played under 19th century rules. Some teams use the 1860's some as late as the 1880's it just varies by team. I've played the game a few years and wasn't happy on my former team, so I'm attempting to get my own team going. I've had some decent luck recruiting players and we've practiced a few times. My own role as a player is changing. Previously I was a catcher who occasionally pitched. This year I'll probably be the primary pitcher. That's exciting as I've been working on a new pitching style. Essentially I read about the top pitcher from the years 1858 to 1862 and am attempting to master his pitching style. It's different from the way most vintage pitchers throw and at times it works well. At other times my control is off. It's a great feeling when I can fool a good hitter. Still I'm making progress. The biggest worry now is scheduling games. I think that'll work out, and if it does it will be a very enjoyable summer.
