| Remembering Carmen by bigblueeyes511 at 5/2/2009 8:31:16 PM

She has been on my mind for several days,
but life has me too busy.
The phone rang its normal ring,
but I knew before I answered.
Her husband called to tell me she has passed on.
We cried together.
We were assigned by a computer back in 1973.
We met for the first time with our arms full of our belongings.
She looked and said -- "You can have the window, I want the door."
After putting away our belongings, we went to eat dinner.
Who would have ever guessed that a computer would assign your best friend!
That was the beginning of a great friendship.
No matter how much time was in between our visits, it was as if we had been there with each other the day before.
We never said "good by" but instead "See you later"
I have been asked to do one of the hardest things in my life and that is to speak at her funeral.
This is something new for me.
I have sung at funerals but this will be the first time ever for speaking.
But I am taking time out of my busy schedule to go. It is a 6 hour drive and 2 days from work.
Substitutes are at a premium right now,
but that is not stopping me this time.
Nothing comes between friends.
I feel honored to be asked to speak, but I honestly do not know how I will get thru this.
Carmen, you will always be remembered and loved by my family.
Kem said she will miss "somebody" as she always called you as she could never remember your name. When we would talk about going to the beach, she would ask " Is somebody coming?" and we would always tell her you were meeting us there. Then she would say "Somebody is coming and will sleep in my bed!" and smile a big smile.
I know you are pain free now as you are looking down on us. Please giv e me the right words to say on Wed to the rest of the family and others who will be there.
Luv ya and will see you one day. Then we can catch up again.
