| Star Trek 2009 And Why I'll Never get laid again. by lord_anubis at 5/17/2009 11:46:38 AM

This is an exercise in Geekdom, be advised:
Call it...
"Star Trek 2.0"
It's what you expected and yet not quite.
A bunch of new faces, but lots of "IN" jokes that the "Old" fans will pick up on quickly.
The special effects were amazing, story line believable, despite the fact that the "Alternate Time line" has been used over and over.
It was, never the less a clever way to introduce new stories to the franchise, since the original time line was disrupted...
Every thing we knew about the crew's lives is no longer a fact.
This opens up a new line of stories as the "Future's history" no longer exist.
In fact, that plot in itself allow any story to be written without the restrictions of the original Star Trek saga.
The younger, more "Hip" crew will certainly attract new fans as the aging crew of the latest "Next Generation" were by no means
able to shall we say..."Carry the Torch"?
Now on to the crew:
Chris Pine as Captain James T. Kirk:
Young Pine has yet to sell me the "Kirk persona", while he is as "Cocky" as the original Jim Kirk, I must confess I almost miss the "Over Acting"
And pauses between words so eloquently delivered by Will Shatner, that might just be my own short comings, I admit that.
Zachary Quinto As Spock:
Now here we find a hit!
Zac was already climbing up the latter as a villain in "Heroes" and is a versatile and engaging actor.
The resemblance to Leonard Nimoy (Original Spock, for those of you who did not already know, shame on you) is simply Uncanny!!!
I definitely accepted Quinto as a young Spock, we also get to see a part of Spock's life that was never really explored on the
Original Series, with the exception of "Amok Time" but even then those were just hints at Spock's Youth.
Eric Bana As Nero:
Romulans...Now since when Romulans were all bald headed and with tattoos on their face?
Wtf?
Am I being a purist again?
Ok...Fine, I'll let it slide.
Bruce Greenwood As Capt. Christopher Pike:
Fantastic rendition by an accredited actor and perfect selection for the original enterprise Captain.
"See" The Menagerie or simply the Star Trek Pilot and you will understand what I'm talking about.
Karl Urban As Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy:
By far the best, the most believable and for crying out loud a fantastic McCoy!!!!
Deforest Kelley where ever you are, I know this man has to be making you smile right now.
Karl not only has the right voice, the accent and the cadency of the original McCoy, but the man deliver the lines like he was born to play the part.
I will give him a perfect score for his performance as "Bones"
I am still standing up here...Clapping!!!
Zoe Saldana As Nyota Uhura:
Young and very attractive actress, while in the original series she had a thing for Kirk, here she is Spock's interest...Ok...I can live with that.
Simon Pegg As Scotty:
Right Accent, but I failed to see Mr.Scotty here...Again, maybe I am being prejudiced because i grew up watching the original show.
we shall see how that plays on the next movie.
John Cho As Hikaru Sulu:
The actor is Korean American...Sulu was Japanese...Oh hell...The guy could swing a sword and pilot a ship.
Good actor and good choice fpor Sulu.
Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov:
Ok...Even I had a hard time understanding his accent.
Someone should make this guy use an "Universal translator" so we can understand what he just said.
In the back of my mind I still hear him saying "Shields Up, capteen"???
Ben Cross As Sarek:
Sarek as we have never seen him before, seasoned actor.
Good choice for the Vulcan Ambassador and Spock's father.
Winona Ryder As Amanda Grayson:
Holy crap!!!
I was looking to see where was Winona Ryder on that movie, it was not until the end credits that i saw her name and who she played.
In essence Star Trek 2009 is every thing you want and more, high budget film for a franchise that deserves such a treatment.
If you never seen Star Trek before (Which planet are you from???) you will like this movie just as much as the rest of us "Trekkers"
That might even take the stigma of basement geek out of Star Trek forever...Well..Maybe.
As Spock would say:
Live Long...And Prosper
