| the journey

As the clouds begin to veil
the moon's silent face,
I know I must continue
if I'm to win this race.
No pause will be permitted
by the council three,
and as I journey on my way
I sense their eyes on me.
Promises I have made
(yet most in vain),
the reasons for them
all but plain.
Others fall (yet I continue),
refusing to pause at this venue.
Knowing not
what lies in wait,
I journey on
Can't hesitate.
At the start I wanted only
to be the one to win,
now I need to finish
so I may begin.
