Daily 06.13.09: The iPhone Breakup
by thatgamerguy at 6/14/2009 1:17:28 PM

From JohnStaton.com:

Oh, iPhone – we’ve had such a wonderful relationship but I think it might be time to part company.

Really, things just aren’t going to work out.

I mean c’mon, with the new “you” arriving next Friday — youv’e changed and gotten more expensive. The new you is hardly worth the extra money.

I thought I’d get you at the subsidized price but Apple and AT&T don’t see it that way. I realized that even though I love you, I’d have to let you go when they told me how much money you were going to take out of my wallet. Apparently the $199 and $299 pricetags are for new AT&T customers only, and you’ve forgotten about us early adopters that paid $500 for the original “you” and then $300 for the so-called new and improved 3G version. You’ve forgotten about those that truly loved you for “you”. A precedent was set last year when you let 1st gen owners upgrade, why can’t we do it this year?

And I realize that this has more to do with AT&Ts and North America’s fondness for buying cheap phones attached to long term contracts – but let’s face it, you’re weren’t cheap to begin with and the fact that I’m going to have to pay another $500 for the new “you” is unacceptable.

Just so you know, I’m seeing someone else. Her name is the Palm Pre and she’ll be here in a couple weeks.

Oh no! You sent your iPhone a "dear John" letter? How terrible! Aren't you being just a little fickle here? Throwing out the old, reliable iPhone who still loves you with all that she has and all that she is in favor of something bright, shiny and new but yet unproven. Alas, love can only survive when it is unconditional for both parties...........so sad.
