Blackberry Sassafras and Silliness
by measuresup at 7/24/2009 4:51:01 PM

Often I ride the trails in search of the marker
The rod set splitting off the earth each to all
Lines across the planet from marker to marker
Why maybe if it’s ok we should build a mall

I look across the ridge towards the town
And wonder at the way it creeps out to me
When I spy the turkey clutch and frown
Where o where will the hen and kin find to be

On other days I ride the trails in search of me
And I find blackberries ripe and firm to bite
Sassafras again the bank for my evening tea
And good company together to share the sight

What mother earth needs is much less sprawl
Maybe we can hold off on the hillside mall
Perhaps we can slow just a mite the crawl
Of the urban blight seeping towards you all!

We surveyors are noramly the point of development after us no one else sees it as it was. This poemn was written soon after dawn on eagle creek in scott county on a resiviour project. That project was never completed for many different resons. As far as i know the turkeys did fine and there at this time are no plans for a resivior there. On the other hand we still have a water resource proplem in Central ky often there is no right or wrong answer, things just are if that makes sense

makes perfect sense to me! it must be beautiful going to places like the one in this poem, the stillness n the peace must surely be breathtaking.
