| DOG ADOPTIONS by myanaya at 8/17/2009 12:55:32 PM

Yesterday my daughter and I tried to adopt a beagle from a shelter far from our residence. We did our research, browsed through couple of different places and found an adorable eight year old female beagle.
We already have a male beagle although we want to have the companion of another one, since we love ours so much.
We did not carry our dog with us and after seeing our prospect pet we were sent home to bring our dog for an interaction meeting (our name and interest in that dog stated in paper). When we returned, we were asked to sit and wait. While we were waiting I realized that a couple seemed to be in the process of adopting the same dog, but I trusted the workers since we we had been there earlier. When we were called they told us that our pet had been adopted and that there was nothing that we could've done! They even dared to say that they work on first come first serve basis!!! I was furious!!! I even had an asthma attack!
I really felt helpless and even discriminated against.
I wonder, what if I came with a male partner??? What if I had been more agressive and beligerant ???
This situation made me feel that some things work out better if you have your male partner with you. it made me feel powerless! WHAt??? as a single hispanic female would not be a good mother for another beagle??? PATHETIC???
