| Three cheers for old friend! by catmabel at 8/19/2009 1:36:18 PM

It's been one of those weeks, piled on top of another one of those weeks. Every e-mail seemed like a crisis, and every phone call seemed to be from someone who wants something.
And then a good friend e-mailed to ask if I'd like to meet for lunch.
Yes. Definitely. Yes, yes, yes!
The wonderful things about old friends is they love you as you are. They'll overlook your faults in order to appreciate what they like about you. They'll listen to the same story more than once, and they know you'll do the same for them.
I met another old friend for coffee a week or so ago. It was amazing how she and I picked back up as if we'd seen each other the day before. And a couple of weeks before that, a friend who's moved about 20 miles away asked if I'd like to meet for dinner. And yes, he and I slid right into the same kind of conversations we've always had.
My old friends don't laugh at my shoes, or raise an eyebrow when I decide to have strawberry jam on my pancake instead of the usual syrup. They don't make fun of my sad, old car or point out that my hair's sticking up straight again.
I love to meet new people. I adore finding out their likes and dislikes, their histories and plans for the future. And it's absolutely marvelous when one of those new acquaintances turns out, a few years later, to be fantastic old friend.
