A description of Love as told from the bible
by redstar4evr at 8/23/2009 10:43:24 PM

1 Corinthians 13
Suppose I speak in the languages of human beings and of angels but don't have love. I am only a loud gong or a noisy cymbal. Suppose I have the gift of prophecy. Suppose I can understand all the secrets things of God and know everything about him. And suppose I have enough faith to move mountains. If I don't have love, I am nothing at all. Suppose I give everything I have to poor people. If I don't have love, I give nothing at all.
Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not want what belongs to others. It does not brag. It is not proud. It is not rude. It does not look out for its own interests. It does not easily become angry. It does not keep track of other people's wrongs.
Love is not happy with evil. But it is full of joy when the truth is spoken. It always protects. It always trusts. It always hopes. It never gives up. Love never fails. But prophecy will pass away. Speaking in languages that had not been known will end. And knowledge will pass away.
What we know now is not complete. What we prophesy now is not perfect. But when that which is perfect comes, the things that are not perfect will pass away.
When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child. I had the understanding of a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.
Now we see only dimly as if looking in a mirror that is clouded over. But someday we will see clearly. We will see face to face. What I know now is not complete. But someday I will know completely, just as God knows me completely.
The three most important things to have are faith hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
The bible is not just speaking of a love between man and woman but a love for all.
What the world needs now is love sweet love. He's got the whole world in his hands. Put a little love in your heart. Remember those songs.
Lets all remember it all starts with each one of us sitting in front of our computer.

I agree with you sug..what the problem is these days is not enough parents at home to teach such things...I remember growing up there was always one parent at home teaching the Bible to the kids...one thing my Dad taught me was Love for one another..growing up in east texas was rough cause we was considered outcast caused we loved all regaudless of race ,creed or religon...to bad this is not taught today May God the Father richly bless you in all you do Big John

love is.............RESPECT and with it comes a few things from above: patient, giving, kind, and yes It comes w/ pride. It is rude at times. It does look out for its own interests. It does keep track of other people's wrongs. The reason love does these things is because love is respect and if one respect oneself then one has to keep track of those things in order to make ones surrondings stable

I beleive Forgiveness and "Turning the other cheek" are the virtues that help us not keep track. Otherwise we live with the poison left by those wrongs not those that have wronged us. How can we really love with that baggage? JMO

Red, I always had a short Bible lesson before dinner with the family. It gave us a chance to discuss the Bible, what it said to us and ask questions. I tried to instill this in my kids, along with prayer. A lot of times during the whole meal and cleaning up afterwards, we talked about love, forgiveness, why things happened, so it opened the door for longer topics. I only wanted them to read the Bible on their own and not be afrid to ask questions. I never professed to know the answers, only we'll see what the Bible has to say about the subject.

I've always loved first Corinthians 13 knowmatter what translation i here it from (which one is this? not NIV is it?) But this love described comes from the Greek word Agape, whic is PERFECT love which is the that of a loving God toward his children that is completly unconditional. Beautiful indeed.
