Do Dreams Die?
by madrcat at 9/13/2009 1:28:16 AM

I was just wondering. If a person dies in his sleep, what happens to his dream? Does it silently creep into someone elses bed, or does it suffer the fate of it's creator, and dissolve into the ether?

Hmmm - you've got me really thinking on this one. I wonder if it it's any different than say waking up in the middle of a dream. We may remember some, others not. Some dreams are vividly detailed, others are mere fragments. Can you dream & die at the same time? Or is it not a dream but your mind preparing you for this journey's end & the beginning of a new one?

I have heard that dreams are the result of your subconsciencous trying to decipher what went on during that day. It also ties together that days events with other occurances that has happened at other times. We always dream it is that most of the time we don't remember them. Dreams are a very personal thing, they draw upon are own perceptions to make them work. I believe that the dreams continues with you since I believe that this life is just the first phase not the only one.

Maybe they are becoming part of the dream......or the dream is forever a part of their energy.

They belong to the dreamer, so I'd think they go where they go.

I don't ever dream of things that occur during the day. My dreams are not always remembered, except for the feeling that they are of strange events that have not happened and probably will never happen. Once in a blue moon I will dream of someone I know. And then those dreams do tend to come true. Had one about a new friend, I was babysitting her son and baby daughter (she only had a son and didnt want more children) and we had to vacate her house due to a fire. She eventually came to me and said she was pregnant! Low and behold she had a girl. Few years later her house burned down. I dread dreaming of people I know!! LOL

I have dreamed of things "in the past" and also something "in the future"; that did come to pass, so I feel that 'dreams' are a part of us, that remain; as somehow there seems to be a 'spirit' connection. If we go on to a new life, as 'part of our personal journey'-I feel they must be an important part of us --- But all this is just my opinion --Thanks everyone for a great topic!

Really thought provoking. I do know everytime I have dreamed of snakes something bad happens to me in a day or two. So yes I believe the dream belongs with the person and goes with that person wherever.

Wow, never thought a blog would draw this type of response. To live in a dream is a mistake, to die in a dream is a nightmare. But that assumes we have a reality outside of the dream. Do we? As Immanuel Kant proposed, "I think" is really a presupposition to the act. So similarly, is it the act of dreaming that creates the person, or is it the person who creates the dream? Can a dream die a natural death, or does it take the willful embodiment of the soul to send a dream to its death?
