Praying to statues/saints, spirits, and the Rosary
by madrcat at 9/15/2009 11:46:38 PM

I'm a little confused by the whole concept of prayer? Maybe someone can shed some light on some things?
I grew up Roman Catholic and so I used to pray on a daily basis. So much so, that I wondered if G_d even cared anymore? The same old verses day in and day out. If I was G_d, I would have changed the channel to wrestling, or something with a little less choreagraphy to it!

Anyway- if G_d is omnipotent, should he already know who is going to pray, who means it and who needs help? Does praying actually have an influence on such an important being?

Secondly, is praying to saints and angels strictly for human comfort? If so, how is that different from sitting on Santa's lap at Christmas time? If we got our Red Ryder BB gun, does that mean that the guy who always smelled like a shot of whiskey really had a direct link? If so, then why can't we look at prayers the same way? (It doesn't matter the method, the channel is always tuned in.) What about if we didn't get what we wanted? Is the being, i.e. Santa, any less effective in THE overall scheme? Did it make you believe any less in Santa the day after Christmas?

I guess where I'm going with this is, Does prayer serve a purpose above and beyond the uses it has to the human race? Would we ever expect to see Mr. Spock pray to G_d on Star Trek, or is the concept when looked at from a bigger scheme, just plain illogical?

(Stolen from my post in the Religion Forum under the same Title.)

Well..............I'll tell you. I was pronounced "dead" once and should have been dead two other times and in those times there wasn't anyone else I could pray to.The fact that I am still alive today is not coincidental. I once thought I was invinsible, in my younger days but the older I got I knew I wasn't. Today, I still pray (talk to GOD), instead of just saying the Act of Contrition and letting it go just like that. No, GOD has answered me many times in the last fifteen years than at any other time in my life.

I pray to no statues it's more the unknown presense of God whom I speak, it's an inner belief.. As I say if I believe something I Believe IN IT... I don't believe in Church as God is everywhere he hears me as I walk down a street, in my car and in my time of need... I thank him pretty much daily for lots of stuff.. Usually I say "Thanks Lord"... I have always trusted in GOD and he's never failed me.. (God allows me the means to whatever I need) How blessed am I, I am greatful and Thankful for his love!! God is Faith in the unknown.. without faith you have no hope.. Gotta have faith in something God/Budda/Mother Earth/Something....JMO

The Creator does know......He also knows that the more YOU are in prayer the more you know HIS presence. Prayer is more for your benefit than it is for the Creator. JMHO

I believe in the goodness of God. He is ALWAYS good. He feels AND bears my pain. His love gives me the power of choice, and I choose to believe Him and honor Him. And no matter what, nothing can separate me from His love. His mercy triumphs over evil I and believe He can bring good in the midst of any bad situation, Yes God is Omnipotent, and yes he does already know who is going to pray and who means it and who needs help. He only asks, that you ask.
