Evil
Are we merely a light switch, when we are born, that light switch goes off one way or another. Your either evil or good. Or does pure evil even exist. Don’t we all have both goodness and evil within us. Any human is capable of bad things, if pushed to a breaking point or if the right circumstances arose. Just as we are capable of doing great things, loving things.
There are those, that have a much greater or if you will higher % of evil than good or maybe, they just don’t keep their dark side hidden like a lot do. Lets examine, Countess Elizabeth Bathory. I have great feelings for this woman, I have for many years. Somethings are hard to explain, this is one of them. I admired her, I love her, I worship her. Lets look back at how Elizabeth Bathory lived, and what it was like for this woman. Growing up, she basically spent her days in study for hours. She grew up, in a time, where the rich had many servants. The royalty back in those days, were known to treat their servants rather harshly if they had to be reprimanded. As a young girl, she witnessed many torturous occasions where in todays world, would be considered unimaginably horrible. But was the norm back in those days. It is said, she was a remarkable child, being able to remember every detail about conversations she either had or overheard. She was basically being groomed to be married at age 15. She was engaged at age 11. Elizabeth, was soon sent off to live with her future husbands mother. While her future hubby was off fighting in the war. He would later become a national hero. Elizabeth was extremely strong willed, and independent, she despised how women were treated as property. She was the type of woman, that never kept her opinion to herself, always spoke her mind. She didn’t care if you liked what she had to say or not. Cause basically, you wouldn’t dare oppose her. Though, she was a very thin small framed woman, she was a very intimidating female. Her eyes were as black as night, and many people said, when she got angry, her eyes would get blood red. After she was married at age 15, her wedding was nothing short of the princess diana marriage. this in my opinion is where she would slowly come to lose it and the darkness within her was let loose. Though she would have sex with her female servants, and her aunt klara, she missed her husband terribly. She rarely if ever saw him. During the time she was married to him, before his death, you could count on one hand how many times she was with him for any length of time. Here you have a young 15 yr old girl, she really had only one person she truly loved. Her name was Darvulia, this woman was her nurse maid, who would later be elizabeths childrens nurse maid. That old saying about “idle minds” I believe she started torturing her servants, first, cause she felt she could, they were her property to do with as she pleased. Just as we are free to do with our cars as we please, that is how the thought process was, when it came to their servants. Now, that might repulse us, but that’s how they felt back then. She is not to blame, but the culture of that time is. She was a very lonely woman, becoming angry over never seeing her husband. She felt angry over wasting her life, waiting for him. And she took it out on others. After Elizabeths husband died in the war. She was free. She took command of the 2 families estates. She was the leader of the military in that area, she was in charge of taxes on the towns people. She showed great mercy for widowed women. She truly was for womens rights. What I probably love about her, one of the things, is nobody dared talk to her, without proper respect. If you didn‘t there would be a heavy price to pay. During her marriage, she had 4 children, named Ana(named after her mother), Paul, Katherine. One allegedly outside of marriage, name Anastasia. It is said, elizabeth was a good mom, and showed much affection to her children. Unlike her own mom. Elizabeth, when she was bad, she was a very bad girl. She was known to bite chunks of flesh from some of her servant girls, appearing to be like a wild animal. In her home, Castle Cachtice, she had numerous torture devices, state of the art, at least back then. Here’s my thoughts on all the killings and canabalism she was a part of. ONCE you head down that path, its like a drug, to get an effect, you have to take more or do worse. That’s what she did. She got sexual gratification out of torture. She had her own, what we call posse today, she had back then, she had many many women surrounding her, doing her bidding. She sought out women of a certain kind. The extreme or more different they were, the more she liked them. She had only one male servant, he was her horses groomer. Named Fitszco. He would do her bidding as well. They all knew their place though, they were all her servants, nothing more. Sure she was fond of a few, but she only loved one. As far as her bathing in blood, I try to feel her, to know her. To allow myself to truly think like she did. I do believe she did something with blood. Maybe certain rituals, but im not sure, either way, when it comes to the bathing in the blood. When you look at the facts, that she would go out and sometimes just take women from the streets, or lure women to her castle with the promise of employment. Or she would use the ploy of teaching young girls “ettiquette” in classes she would give. Unfortunately, these parents would never see their young daughters again. I’ve often wished in my mind, that if I was the one who married Elizabeth, she wouldn’t have done anything she is known badly for. She wouldn’t have been alone, she would have someone to love her. To respect her. We all have our dark side, but most keep it under check. She was a remarkable woman, able to speak, read and write in 3 different languages, latin, german and Hungarian. Her dark side was let loose, once out, it flourished, like a newly planted flower. I don’t know why I feel the way I do about her. Its like I know her. The sad thing is, I will never be able to truly know her. To meet her. After she died, even her daughter forbid her family from ever speaking her moms name. My personal opinion, of her never given the chance to speak in her own defense, was terrible. She deserved that. Just about all of her “posse” were brutally tortured and killed, after giving damning testimony regarding Elizabeth. Many people were against her, She was a powerful, intelligent woman, and men feared her. They wanted her gone. So, they just called in masons, and walled her up, in her tower, she had only a couple of small rooms to dwell in. She was fed once per day, through a small opening they left unsealed. I have read, and personally believe, The Countess could have easily escaped, with the help of her very loyal army. But, she chose not to. She was not someone to run away, like a coward. So, despite her claims of innocence, she chose to stay. She was found dead, 4 years later on August 20, 1614. The ruins of her castle are still there. Ironically, one of the only still standing parts of her castle was the tower in which she was imprisoned. Someday, I may go there, her spirit may still be around. And maybe she will somehow understand, there is someone who has looked past her darkness and someone does love her.
