| Does Mr. Right Exist?/Is Love Real? by margotescargot at 10/28/2009 2:13:32 PM

I've watched my fair share of chick flicks, was an avid Sex and the City fan and I've read enough feminist literature to teach a Women's Studies course. Time and again I'll pick up a copy of Cosmo at the airport. In the fictional world the girl gets the guy, ends up with prince charming after much strife and anguish. But I know plenty of real people that have yet to find their knight in shining armor and they've been through hell and back. For every happy couple there's another single man or woman who will never find their soulmate.
The relevation that there isn't someone out there for everyone saddens me. I'm sure my 40-something single aunt thought she would be happily married when she was my age. We are taught to think that true love is a right guranteed to us in the Constitution. However, not everyone is so lucky to find their counterpart. So, if that's the case maybe the idea that there is someone out there for everyone is completely false.
And even if you do find the right person what if you're wrong? What if that person turns out to be a complete jerk? Then you have to start over with less certainty and a broken heart. Most relationships end, that's the truth. Fifty percent of marriages in the USA end in divorce. So what hope is there for young single people?
Maybe love is something we just have to believe in against all odds. Something that defies statistics and studies. That's all that I can think of that makes me feel better. The faith in love is what separates romantics from realists. Love has no place for realists and cynics, one has to believe in love the way they believe in their faith I guess.
Well those are my thoughts. What do you all think?
