Why I'm Here
by joe_wolvie at 10/29/2009 11:36:18 PM

Hello and welcome to my very first entry in this online journal/blog.

I just joined this site today (10/30/09) and while I have no idea what to expect. I know what I want…but my experiences with other online dating sites lead me to believe that I might just be spinning my proverbial wheels. Regardless, being somewhat of an optimist, I’m willing to put my best (virtual) foot forward and keep the faith that something will happen if it is meant to be.

Online dating in general is a pretty complicated thing. On the outside (as well as in the advertisements), it seems like a really good idea. You fill out a bunch of forms, answer a bunch of questions and selectively click on traits, likes, dislikes and preferences. All of this is done in the hopes that the magic silicone chips will whirr behind the scenes and churn out a list of the most beautiful, intelligent, emotionally available people for you to meet and connect with.

Wow, what a great idea! It ranks right up there with the perpetual motion machine (if you don’t understand the reference, Google it).

In truth, there are a lot of factors out there that throw a monkey wrench in the works.

Speaking strictly from a guy’s point of view, I can say that the majority of people I find on these online sites are: scammers, misrepresenting themselves, perpetually window shopping, in search of attention to boost up their ego, rude, intolerant and socially retarded. This goes for the guys as well as the girls, as I’m not one to single out a sex or a demographic.

So, you may ask, “Well Joe, if that’s the case, why in blazes are you here?” Well, good question…and one I’m happy to answer.

The reason I’m here is both curiosity and optimism. I’m curious about chance of meeting that special someone who just blows me away. I’m optimistic that it could eventually happen.

I’m willing to deal with the nonsense associated with online dating a little longer since, well let’s face it; you meet the same types of malcontents out in the real world as well. So you can’t expect it to be different here online.

In truth, it isn’t very easy to meet new people. All of my friends are married with children. I travel a lot for work all over NYS and I would never consider having a relationship with someone associated with my work. I just never thought it was a good idea to bother women in the supermarket or in stores by trying to pick them up. Clubs and bars are just not my scene and hosted singles events feel too much like a job interview.

So, as I take the first steps into this new website with the same old notion of finding and connecting with someone, I do so with the full knowledge that it might just amount to nothing. But if that is the case, I know it won’t be as a result of my actions or intentions, so I won’t feel too bad about it.

Thanks for reading. Remember: have fun, stay safe and never settle for less than you deserve!

-Joe
