| Santa Ysabel Preserve in Julian 11/7/09 by andfaraway at 11/3/2009 12:45:57 PM

11/7/09
Max and I did the Kanaka Loop Trail at Santa Ysabel Open Space Preserve in Julian with a Meetup group. 7 miles of easy to moderate difficulty, Kanaka Loop follows Santa Ysabel Creek for about 1.5 miles and connects with a portion of the Coast to Crest Trail.
We saw happy California cows grazing and wild turkeys crossed the trail under a huge oak.
Took scenic Wynola Road back to the 78/79, and stopped at the Inaja Firefighter Memorial. Did the 1/2 mile nature walk with some awesome views of the valley. Stopped at Julian Pie Shop on the way home and did not get pie- went for the Apple Nut Bread instead. Nom Nom Nom .
More than 13 miles of multi-use trails wind through the preserve with 2 loop trails. The terrain is mostly level with a 200 foot elevation gain through the middle section of the trail. Oak woodlands and native grass land settings in this 3,800-acre scenic mountain preserve. Santa Ysabel Creek runs along the entire northern boundary of the preserve.
