Day 3, Friday, August 31st Holbrook AZ to Tucumcari, NM –
It is 8:08 AM and I am sitting at my little dinette eating my breakfast of peanut butter bread and diet Mountain Dew, listening to Chopin, getting used to my new laptop, and writing to all my friends. Alas, Trisha, there is no chocolate milk to go with my peanut butter bread. Actually when I drink chocolate milk I break out like a teen-ager. I do have eggs and planned on having fried egg sandwiches for breakfast but so far I have not felt like turning on the propane.
Well my good intention to email every day has not held up. Today I am writing Day 1 even though it is now Day 3. I am in a wonderful camp ground with free WI-FI in Holbrook, AZ today so perhaps I can get on track.
Today I scheduled myself the longest drive of all, 407 miles, nearly 6 hours. MEMO TO SELF – Do Not Schedule More than 4 hours of driving.
I didn’t stop to take many pictures except for some flowers at the gas station as I was leaving Holbrook. Not my favorite flower but it represents the type of desert flowers found in the area.
Today, I saw some majestic scenery. First, I drove through the Petrified Forest National Park. There were all sorts of rock formations. Near the north entrance is an area called the Painted Desert. It had brilliant shades of red and orange. Personally I would skip the southern portion and just view the northern, but then I am not really big on rock formations. I do love colorful views. Sorry no pictures. It’s best in person.
Then I drove through New Mexico. Tucumcari is near the eastern border. Along the way were many colorful bluffs and buttes. There was some rain and some lightening. Best of all there was a magnificent rainbow. I kept telling Prince to look at it. He made no comment. He hardly whimpers any more, I guess he has just accepted my singing. THEN, there was a second rainbow; never got to the end of either one to get the pot of gold.
By the time I got to Albuquerque it was dark so I have no idea what the terrain is like between there and Tucumcari.
It was another late day, plus I lost an hour entering New Mexico. They are on Mountain Time.
I turned the propane on when I set up the trailer. I am getting tired of peanut butter bread for breakfast. It’s time to make an egg sandwich.
My usual bedtime snack is 1/8 of a sugar-free pumpkin pie. That way it should last me to my brother’s house.
Broke a Nail.
End of Day 3; More Later.
