Why I do not celebrate Saint Patrick's Day...
by sekhmetvotaress at 3/16/2008 9:34:31 PM

This is taken from Wikipedia:

"...Patrick with banishing snakes from the island, though post-glacial Ireland never actually had snakes;[37] one suggestion is that snakes referred to the serpent symbolism of the Druids of that time and place, as shown for instance on coins minted in Gaul (see Carnutes), or that it could have referred to beliefs such as Pelagianism, symbolized as “serpents”."

It seems to me, that as an Irish girl (half-irish), celebrating a man who was not Irish and also banished indigenous peoples from Eire is just an abomination.

I am in no way stating that you should not celebrate - these are simply my reasons.

Why would I celebrate an Irish holiday that is actually celebrating:

An English Man?

An English Man who is thought to have banished Druids and others from their home?

An English Man who started a long history of religious intolerance on Eire?

No Green Beer for me, thank you.

I am proud to be Irish. But there is no way in hell I will celebrate the English. Keep the English out of Ireland - and give Ireland back its TRUE traditions!

Éirinn go Brách!
