Although...I would more classify this under absurd. I was watching the news last night when a commercial came on for some medicine. I was not paying attention until I heard - while they were doing the side effects spiel - excessive gambling.
Okay. I know there are medicines which have many horrible side effects: seizures, dry mouth, constipation, death (even death as an sfx), but excessive gambling?
EXCESSIVE GAMBLING? (Not to mention the obsessive compulsion to have sex and shop.)
This is just too good to make up.
If you don't believe me, look it up yourself. Google "Mirapex Gambling" and you will see...yes, you will see...
Taken from a website:
"Mirapex, a popular drug in the treatment of Parkinson's disease manufactured and distributed by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, has been at the center of a controversy since hundreds have alleged that since taking the medication they are finding themselves feeling powerful urges to gamble, shop, have sex and eat compulsively. Many have stated that they find these urges uncontrollable, resulting often in broken marriages, bankruptcy, and host of psychological problems including depression and suicide. Many encounter legal problems in addition to everything else as a result of these compulsions."
