| we just stayed friends,... old friends

i'm wondering if this dating service racket is worth it, and am looking at an old couple that is sitting together reading a magazine at the library. i check my e-mail here, and check out books. i'm a book hound, and can't help it. they have great movies too. a good place to people watch sometimes. i don't have time to do such a thing, but get a kick out of seeing happy old couples. i asked one once up in a chicago mcdonalds how they did it, and they looked at each other, and the old fella said, "we just stayed friends". and the lady said, "old friends!", and they laughed. it was just one of those things that usually pass you by in everyday conversations and all of the different places and faces. but it's stuck with me over the years, and i always envied those two... and i guess that if i might find someone that could be as sweet as that lady was in our golden years, then this is worth it.
