Biking Companion

What a windy, but warm day. Can't wait till the weekend so that I can go for a bike ride! Perhaps there is someone out there who enjoys 30 to 40 mile bike rides around the lakes and quiet roads of Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The winds have finally settled down, biking could occur soon. Heading over to Wisconsin this weekend will hopefully be checking out a couple of the bike trails in the Eau Claire area. The Red Cedar is one of my favorites along with the Elroy-Sparta Trail near LaCrosse. Another possibility is to bike around Lake Pepin ..........Cannon Falls or Root River/Harmony Trail later this spring/summer.

Being born and raised in Wisconsin I am familiar with the Red Cedar and the Elroy-Sparta even though I haven't actually ridden them. I believe the latter one goes through a couple former dark railroad tunnels. I sometimes pass through Sparta on the way to SW Wisconsin. Lake Pepin is a pretty area but I am not familiar with the trails in that area. I have been on the Munger trail in the Jay Cooke area, the Paul Bunyan trail and in the metro the Gateway, Grand Rounds and Elm Creek.

Had a great dairy queen ride last weekend while in Wisconsin. Despite less than ideal biking conditions, my niece and nephews endured the clouds until they burned off and it was a beautiful rest of the day. We did a shorter ride of 22 miles. My initial plans was to ride the Ironman this Sunday, but I don't feel the need to ride in the rain and snow (been there, done that)...... Still working on finding a nice picture or two to post... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Was able to sneak in a short ride Wednesday night along trails by the Mississippi-- it was a good evening to encounter wildlife-ducks, geese, two really big beavers and one not so big fawn made me realize again the simple pleasures of nature that can come from getting away and taking the time to slow down and experience the beauty that surrounds us. We are lucky to live in an area where we can slip away from the crowds into the peacefulness of the woods. This weekend may not be too ideal so will either forgo a ride or slip on Minnesota thermal-ware clothing to endure the elements and remember how nice it will hopefully be in a few days.

Wow, what a beautiful day for a ride....40 miles longest of the year thus far. Did a combination of Coon Rapids Dam and Elm Creek Preserve. The frogs were out in unison!
