I am not a medical doctor, nor a dietician and I guess I couldn’t call myself a fitness expert. But, I have formed opinions over the years that I know many Americans share. And that is, that this whole ‘fitness crazy, ab machine buying, health conscience, skinny sickly model watching, fad diet trying country, is going off the deep end!
You can’t go 3 channels on your television without seeing an infomercial on some home fitness machine. Or check in the bookstore and count all the diet books on the shelves. Now we even have fitness gyms that are open all night long.
But, my question is this; “Do Americans really want to be that fit, that in shape, that thin?” I say, heck no. We are being forced into buying those stupid machines and diet books by the corporate world, who are only out to make a buck. They try to shame us scare us and con us into buying their products that promise better bodies and a perfect life. I say enough is enough!
If someone is unhappy with their size, their appearance or their level of fitness, they should make the decision to change. Not some marketing guru in New York who probably is over weight and out of shape himself! Or, if their doctor advises them to take on a healthier lifestyle and start a sensible diet and exercise program, that’s great! (Beware if you’re doctor recommends the ‘Home Gym’ he’s probably on the take.)
Frankly, as a normal red blooded American male, I like women with a little meat on their bones. Those grotesque models on television and in the magazines make me cringe. Yuck! They are the ones that need to read the health and fitness books. If a person is happy enough with the way they are, they shouldn’t put themselves through the mental torture of trying to change to please someone else. That, my friend is unhealthy!
Now let me share a few random thoughts on this topic.
I believe Jarrod from the Subway commercials is a sellout and possibly a Communist or terrorist.
I believe that greasy, fast food is good for you because it actually lubricates the joints in your body.
I think that every time you go on a diet, your brain also loses weight, making you less smart.
Anyone who tries to sue a fast food restaurant because they gained weight…well they’re just stupid.
