All I’m looking for is the same thing you are. The freedom to be myself, maybe someday have a family, and love. The simplicity of that statement belies the profound responsibility inherent in each and every part. It’s a responsibility given to many, understood by some, exercised by few, and defended by even less.
I was denied the first of those desires again today. Denied my freedom because my love and family were threatened by the people of the very nation that baldly declares before the world that “*Here*, you are free. *Here* nobody will be allowed to steal your freedom.”
There are times when a society turns the other way when faced with the political clout of the ideological majority is utilized to pressure the ideologies that are less prevalent. Many times in the past, and I’m sure what will be many times in the future questionable legal measures have been used to threaten what is contradictory to religious moral absolutism.
I came here with the hope that I could fly under the gaze of watchful eyes and be able to obtain *my* type of love to fulfill and complete my unique brand of individualism. Unfortunately in a very short time, despite exercising a caution that rankled in it’s necessity, the wrong people found out. “This can’t be allowed to happen. It isn’t healthy, it isn’t right, it isn’t what the Bible tells us” they said to themselves and two innocent, sweet little kids are threatened with having their world turned inside out as a result. Those people want to find a way of using Child Protective Services to take the kids away from the life they know. Away from the education that has given them more than what the average child learns according to their own standardized testing. Away from the parents that have protected them while helping them grow into the healthy, happy young Americans who can make their own choices.
The perceived crime was intimate relations with a married couple, and being honest about it to possible partners. Nobody was being hurt by our choices. Never was there the attempt to forcibly “convert” the unwilling to adopting our choices. In short we were doing nothing harmful, illegal, dangerous, or overtly offensive. We were minding our own business, being happy, and they had nothing to fear from us. The Christian extreme right did not agree.
That was ok. They could disagree if they wanted to. After all they are Americans, and I am one of them. They are my people and I’ve gone to war defending their ability to do that. I’ve dropped everything when the unthinkable happened to them and washed their entire lives away in flood waters to save what I could for them and make sure they were able to get back their lost hopes and dreams. They are Americans and deserved no less from me because America would do the same had it been I in their shoes. The willingness to preserve individual freedoms is in essence the basis of America itself.
As a society we have our flaws, we work to fix them normally and often succeed. Sometimes, as may be the case soon with legal actions against us, those same flaws are used to harm in the quest for ideological dominance. All done for “the good of the children” of course because they undeniably know best.
So in the face of that looming threat I am forced to retreat, hide my identity, and slink away with my tail between my legs to ensure the safety of two little girls. I have removed or changed all information that might be used to identify me on this website. I am ending any relations with anyone on here because it’s too risky and we might be tracked down. My search for a like minded partner to love and raise my own family is tossed bitterly to the side while I do my best to make sure I can still enjoy the love another family has for me. I was forced to compromise what I thought was right and hurt people I’ve come to respect and even care about on this website by walling them out. Simply because the alternative was worse I hurt those people deeply.
I will never be rid of the shameful responsibility for allowing myself to be so vile as long as I live.
Before I take the next step in retreat by complete erasure of my hard drive, I would however like to issue a warning:
I have taken responsibility for my choices, have you?
Those of you who think to force your views of morality on us, and actively eliminate that which you cannot accept are making a horrible mistake. Diverse views, diverse cultures, diverse methods for just about anything are the key to a society’s survival. The destruction of free individual thought is the destruction of our adaptability for the future. The culture that suppresses variation stagnates, and a rigidly stagnant society can easily fail if it’s future demands that it accommodate.
If you continue with what you’re doing America will lose the power behind an extremely valuable people’s voice. The individualism and beauty of those people will be marginalized or even worse lost forever. I am a firm believer that even ideas that you see as fundamentally evil are also useful and shouldn’t be eradicated when they appear. Even the most vile hate speech uttered from a Neo-Nazi’s mouth serves to remind us that his views can, and in fact do exist. We remember to stay vigilant in preventing his ideas from being practiced instead of forgetting. To eradicate the idea itself would present the serious danger that we wouldn’t recognize it if and when it appears in the future. Ideas that encompass and practice the domination of humanity need to be controlled.
Consider carefully the road you’re traveling. Someday you might come around the corner to find me standing directly in the center of it.
The valuable voice America would lose would be yours. Because beside me will be standing your mothers and fathers, your sisters, brothers, daughters, and sons. Blocking your route along with me will be your friends, co-workers, bosses, supervisors, and members of your community. You will see the very same people who were your onetime compatriots standing beside *you* against those who would seek to oppress the values of us all. You will know in your heart that we will defy your attempt to forge the chains of slavery on our free will with everything we have. You will know that we will match you stroke for stroke in whatever arena you bring this fight to. You will know this because you have seen us do it before. You’ve done it with us as our brothers even if it meant that we pour out our lives in blood together to protect what we as a nation hold dear, and the people sheltered in freedom within it.
Eventually, as is the case throughout history, everyone subjected to your heavy-handed foolishness of every creed and belief you thought to destroy as a collective group will decide it is time to take our freedoms back from you.
Tragically we will.
Tragic because if pushed to that point there will be no return for you. All your power and influence you have worked so hard to achieve will be lost and your values shoved away for good as you sought to have happen to ours.
The only difference will be that we will let you keep *your* children.
You can teach them your “one true” morality and it just might live on in them if they make that decision. Your ideas, your voice, even all the good you have to offer will become nothing more than an echo of onetime “evil” to laugh at and scorn just like our Arian friend.
