| Great Book: Mis-measure of Woman by awakeing at 4/28/2008 7:38:28 AM
My life certainly took a turn in the last 3 weeks, hence my absence for the last month. During this little adventure I happened upon an outstanding book:
The Mis-measure of Woman
I'd consider myself far from "feminist" I never did believe the line us against them or buy into the war of the sexes. I see nothing wrong with men being better at somethings and women others. I've always said God bless the man who could do a job I could not.
What struck me was who gets to place the value on a job that can be done by either sex? A man was awarded 56k for having to take care of the home while his wife was unable to for 2 months due to an accident that she had been in. Well that added up to over 336k for the year.
I have yet to see any female homemaker awarded that value.
I myself fell right in line with the current belief that women are suppose to do it all, the home, the career, the raising of the children, and the role in the family as total 'blame' person when things go wrong and it's her responsibility to fix it.
I learned two things from this book:
1. The more you do the less others have to do and it sets you up to be the easy scape goat.
2. No one can honestly give you value. Do things because you value them. And no money is not a real value. Things that you do from the heart and soul are priceless. Love is just given, it can never be earned.
The chapter on female sexuality was enlighting as well. No matter what Master and Johnson has to say the female G spot is real.
Pay special attention to the chapter on Women and current laws. Perhaps it will inspire some of you female legal wizards out there.
I hope that you will pick up this book and find insights into women's roles as I did. I think you'll enjoy the debunking of Freud's popular beliefs as I did.
