I ask this question because you can look in history at all of these wars and find people at the time thought we should not have fought.

| I picked the Revolutionary War. The dissenters at the time argued that the war would not be beneficial if we were to end up fighting for the kind of government we had at the time.(the monarchy) Who would want to fight a war against tyranny if we would have replaced it with another? The Constitution was not meant to be a "living" document. These were the rules laid out by the Founders so that the people of our country would live free. Free from government interference in citizens lives. Many people would argue it is out dated and had to be changed with the times. I disagree. Why even have a Constitution or Bill of Rights if the rules and interpretations change with the times? That is why the civil war was the first unconstitutional war. Many think it was about ending slavery, which if you read what Lincoln said his thoughts were on that subject before he was president and even early in his reign, it becomes clear that was not the case. More i think, it was fought over states rights and the X Amendment, which when the U.S government did not have delegated powers given them by the Constitution, the states reserved that power.

| They all played a Key outcome for the U.S. Tho there are some who deem Vietnam not to be one of them. They all played a major role in the life of the U.S.
Revolutionary War = Must to break independance from Britain
Civil War = Must to return the people who were tricked to leave the union
World War I = Must to protect the world and the people from tyranny and oppression as well as death.
World War II = Must cause if someone is gonna sneak attack and kill thousands of sailors you bet your arse it's time to kick someones arse!
Vietnam = Needed to try and rid the world of Communism which didn't really work to well however it "Stopped" the spread of Communism.
Strictly my opinion. No-one has to agree with it.

| The Revolutionary War- That's why we are Americans in the first place
Civil War- A war driven by greed in Washington
and Both World Wars were all nescessary.
For me the biggest was the Civil War because you had a portion of the country that only made up 32% of the population in the the country paying more than 70% of the nation's taxes. Government greed (just like now) was the biggest factor in that war!
To answer another poster....it had nothing to do with a portion of the country being tricked to leave, it had everything to do with a portion of the country being unconstitutionally held at gun point stay within the union.
As far as Vietnam...NOTHING gained and more than 60,000 troops lost. There was never a reason to be there and there was never anything good come from it.

After some research I find something very interesting about the Gulf war. It started on 8/2/90 the end is however and I quote "Cessation of hostilities as determined by the U.S. government.
I found this through The American Legion.
