I think what I hate most about dating is the whole awkward putting on your best behavior to impress vibe. I propose that a good date (okay maybe not first date)would be going camping with tents and no amenities.
Why? because I don't want to see how nice a person can act. I want to see them when things get ugly, I want to know 1. how they adapt to an uncontrolled environment and 2. Do they truly possess and hang onto their sense of humor. For me you can't really know somebody until you get down and dirty in the woods. I think if you survive and still dig each other you achieve in a weekend what people can waste months on in the traditional forum. What kind of date reveals what you want to know and why?

I think I'm a pretty good first date... and a pretty good all-around catch... but if some guy picked me up for our first date with a tent and no provisions and thought we'd play weekend warriors... lol... no thanks... must be the city in me...

a lot of the first dates I've been on since my divorce have been with men who were not on their best behavior... and if that was their best, their mothers would be ashamed...

I think a good first date is brief and someplace where you can talk- over coffee, a bookstore, maybe just in the park for a walk, maybe a museum... having something there to talk about is helpful, like in a museum or bookstore... gives you conversation. Something low key, no pressure, short enough that either one of us can get away and not feel like we've wasted too much time, but long enough that we can get a sense of yes, I want to see this person again.

Quote from federal327:
Exactly how many FIRST dates have you been on in the last 5 years?

I have never been on a first date like this, and like I said this isn't really first date material.

You got me though, I hate dating, and I honestly can't remember being on a first date that wasn't cringe worthy. Could this be why???

"For me you can't really know somebody until you get down and dirty in the woods"

LOL.

Some people that can work for. For some, they have a constant-good-looking thing, even if they are dirty, unwashed, hair a mess - they still manage to look cute and sexy.

Other people do not have this. Without their hairbrush, their face wash, their shampoo, their shaving razor - they start to look like a bum off the street and smell like one too. Do you really want to see that? Will that experience help you bond with a person, when you can't even stand to smell them or look at them?

I'll get down and dirty in the woods. Afterwards I'll get dressed and drive her home

I never said you couldn't bring your tooth brush, and yes it is sexy when people stop looking cute. You don't need to smell offensive but there is nothing wrong with a little sweat and bug dope.

Well, I suppose...
Nothing says bonding,
quite like duct taping a date to a tree.

I think I have been on five dates or six dates in the last five years, I backed out of three, and One I won't count because I think it was more of a cosmic joke than a date. I am curious why you care?

A good first date is NOT 4 wheeling as I learned reciently. LOL.
I could do the camping date however. it makes it a lot more difficult to put on a false front.

By the way, all people smell bad on occasion and don't always look their best. If that bothers you then continue to live you're life from the comfort of your computer chair.

oops....almost forgot....the 4 wheeling date? she powerlaunched lunch all over my windshield on a downhill climb....LOL
