| Bad here in Hannibal too, and headed out to help sandbag.... Just up stream is getting hit hard, and it's all comming our way. Levee gates are in place, but it's still gonna top them, or come darn close. Not to mention the levee doesn't follow the whole distance of the city, and the creeks innertwined in it. Alot of areas already closed and under water.

IF ANYONE HAS NOTHING BETTER TO DO TODAY..... GO TO YOUR COMUNTITY, OR THOSE WHO NEED HELP, AND HELP SANDBAG.... YOU WILL BE AMAZED AT HOW EVEN A LITTLE HELP GOES A LONG WAY IN SAVING LIVES, HOMES, AND LAND........ NO AGE REQUIREMENTS.... EVERYONE CAN HELP.....

| Hannibal's Flooding
**To see the interview with Emergency Management Coordinator John Hark, and o0ther such videos concerning the flood, click on: WGEM NEWS There are many videos showing what we are under right now....
HANNIBAL - Sandbagging efforts have stepped up with the help of the Army National Guard.
More than 60 members with the Guard are helping heighten the levee near downtown. Emergency Management Coordinator John Hark says the flood wall and the levee now stand at 34 feet.
Hark says there have been some boils along the levee but he says those have been fixed. He's confident the city will stay dry.
Hark says, "It's good. We have treated them just like they were sand boils. It simply had some water that was sprouting up, it's clear water. As long as it's clear water we're happy with that. If it goes to being murky, dirty water, then that means now that things are starting to eat out and erode. As long as we're seeing clear water, I'm not as concerned than as I would be otherwise. We don't even talk about the levee breaking. It's not going to happen. We're not going to allow that."
Volunteers are still needed to sandbag in Hannibal Monday and Tuesday.

This is the latest and just a tidbit of the news... But you can click on thise two links:
WGEM or KHQA
I think Khqa has the best coverage, and many videos.. Many levees have breeched upstream on both sides,of the river, and we have aproxmately 11 spots they are watching realy close here for fear they will breech.
There is now close to 10 million acres of land under water at this moment!!!
Here is a small clip from today:
########Hannibal flood dangers(video)
Many streets not protected by the city's flood wall could go under water
By Alexis Hunt
Posted: Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 5:27 p.m.
Hannibal faces its highest flood surge since 2001. That means many streets not protected by the city's flood wall could go under water. Some of those streets include Ely and south 6th and 7th streets at Colfax Avenue. This is what the intersection of Jefferson and Sycamore streets looked like today near Bear Creek. There may not be much water on some roads Wednesday, but Marion County Emergency Management Director John Hark told KHQA that could all change Thursday when rain is expected. According to the National Weather Service, the flood stage in Hannibal as of 2pm was at 21.27 feet. Hark says the city's main concern with flooded streets is that people don't drive blindly into the water.
"We see a lot of kids riding bicycles in this water. Understand the pressure from these sewer can pop off a manhole lid, and that water can be extremely deep. We encourage people to stay out," Hark says.
Hark say if you can't see the pavement, then you have no business driving through it.#####

| NOT LOOKING GOOD THIS MORNING......
Flood information (6.18.08)
Posted: Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 7:47 a.m.
The Meyer levee was compromised just after 1 a.m. Wednesday morning.
The breach is believed to be at or near Lock and Dam #20 in Meyer.
KHQA Noon webcast anchor Jim Robesky spoke with Adams County EMA director John Simon just after it happened.
He said officials didn't know how serious the breach was at that time.
They needed to wait until daylight to assess the damage, according to John Simon.
He said that sheriff's deputies were on the scene when a wall of water came down on them.
The water will likely spread from the Adams County bottoms into Hanc*ck County as well, so law enforcement officials carried out evacuations at the river camps in Warsaw as well.
The Indian Graves south levee was also compromised this morning.
The levee breached sometime after 6am this morning.
According to the Adams County EMA office as of 8am this morning the water was rising very quickly and there was very strong, fast current.
Officials say that Meyer and Indian Graves have both evacuated.
Crews are still sandbagging on the Indian Graves north levee.
A command center was also set up at Mendon Elementary school.
We spoke with Hannibal/ Marion County ESDA director John Hark this morning.
It appears that a levee broke somewhere outside of Palmyra.
At this time the details are extremely sketchy, and we're waiting to hear back from John Hark.
We will bring them to you as soon as we can.
We also spoke with the Canton EOC office this morning.
According to one of their representatives, the levee at Canton has seen no relief from the breaks across the river overnight.
They could not confirm if the water levels had gone up or down on the levee there.

| FOUR LEVEES BREAK TODAY ALONE!!!!!
THIS AREA IS REALY GETTING HIT HARD THIS MORNING, WITH MORE YET TO COME AS THE RIVER HAS YET TO CREST TODAY.
THERE ARE NOW 11 AREAS ALONG THE LEVEE IN OUR AREA THAT ARE POTENTIAL "HOT SPOTS" IN WHICH OUR LEVEE NEAR HANNIBAL COULD BREAK AT ANY TIME...
I WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED AS MUCH AS I CAN.........
"""""The Tri-State riversides have been hit hard this morning. Here's what's been happening:
Around 6 a.m. this morning, in Adams County, the Indian Grave District was overtopped with water just north of the Dock restaurant in Quincy. Eye witnesses report the deafening sound of rushing water over the levee.
Also this morning, the Marion County Drainage District suffered a blow near the South Frank Levy ,north of Palmyra. Its taking on water on both the east and west ends. Only farmland is being flooded there.
And earlier this morning, around 1 a.m., WGEM learned that a levee near the community of Meyer, Illinois was overwhelmed by the raging river.
Floodwaters are spilling over the top of the levee near Lock and Dam 20 on the Illinois side.
Multiple rural emergency agencies were called in this morning, but most of the residents in meyer had already moved out after a voluntary evacuation order this week.
The Warsaw Bottoms are also under evacuation procedures as the water could reach all the way inland to the bluff.
Also shortly before 4 a.m., another levee break was reported in the Lima Drainage District near Meyer.
WGEM will have much more information thorought the day on all of these levee breaks.""""

What's really bad here is farmers were just able to get crops out and now all under water again..

| HERE IS THE LATEST NEWS FROM JUST ACROSS THE RIVER FROM US. FOR RIGHT NOW OUR AREA SEEMS TO BE HOLDING ITS OWN, BUT THERE ARE STILL SEVERAL PLACES OF CONCERNS WITH THE LEVEE. SEVERAL OF THE DOWNTOWN BUSINESSES HAVE NOW PULLED OUT JUST IN CASE THINGS GET WORSE. AND WATER HAS BEGUN TO BACK UP IN MANY OF THE BASEMENTS OF THOSE BUSINESSES ALONG THE RIVERFRONT.
ALL WATER TRAFFIC IN AND AROUND THE HANNIBAL AREA IS NOT HAULTED DO TO THE PRESSURE ON THE LEVEES. EVEN SMALL TROLLING MOTORS, OR BOAT MOVEMENT IS ENOUGH TO BREACH A LEVEE, AND CAUSE DISASTEROUS RESULTS.
I WILL TRY AND PRINT MORE TODAY, AS NEWS IS SLOW COMMING IN THIS MORNING.
Hoping History Doesn't Repeat Itself on the Sny
Posted: June 19, 2008 05:15 AM CDT
Updated: June 19, 2008 05:16 AM CDT
Workers and landowners say they had several hot spots overnight and earlier today on the Sny Island Levee. And at one point this morning they almost lost the levee, near McNarry's house, just down river to where the levee was lost 15 years ago.
In 1993, the Sny Island Levee broke in Reach One.
Rodney Bushneyer, who declined to go on camera, says he was there 15 years ago, and says the same portion of the levee looks like it did in '93.
He says he's not loosing hope but he's not optimistic.
There are some small boils, about the size of a half dollar the have sprung up near the base of the levee. But they're spewing clear water which means they're not troubsome.
Some say the rail bridge just north of the Mark Twain Bridge is wreaking havoc on the river's current. They believe raising the bridge which is currently closed to traffic would alleviate back pressure and destress the sny.
A small break here Wednesday made the water level go down from earlier in the day.
Officials believe there is a light at the end of the tunnel if the sny can get through this critical point over the next few days.
Workers on the Sny say they are in need of wide-track bull dozers and ATV's.
If you can donate those items and or your time, head to the Sny Levee or call the levee office at 426-2521.

Levee breaks in north-eastern Lincoln County
Posted: Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 3:51 p.m.
LINCOLN COUNTY, MO. -- At 3:28 p.m., Lincoln County Emergency Management reported a levee break just north of Highway M in northeast Lincoln County, which will impact much of the Elsberry levee district in both northeast Lincoln and southeast Pike counties.
Flash flooding can be expected to quickly inundate with water the area from just east of Highway 79 to the Mississippi River bounded to the north near Annada and extending southward to near Highway M.
Areas further south are already in a flash flood warning due to previous levee failures. The flooding may also impact the eastern extremeties of the town of Elsberry as well.
All interests in this flash flood warning area should evacuate immediately and move to higher ground.
KEEP THOSE PRAYERS COMMING.........

| THIS IS SOME OF THE LATEST NEWS....
RIGHT NOW THERE IS A MAJOR CONCERN FOR THE RIVER LEVEES UPSTREAM FROM HANNIBAL, MO. AS THE RAIL ROAD BRIDGE WAS LEFT DOWN AND DEBREE IS COLLECTING AND MAKING A "DAM".
THIS IN RETURN JAMS THE RIVER FULL OF DEBREE AND BACKS UP WATER IN THE NORTHERN AREAS, AND PUTS MORE STRESS ON THE ALL READY WEEK LEVEES.
THE RAIL ROAD HAS SAID THEY HAVE "TAKEN OUT" THE GEARS THAT RAISE AND LOWER THE BRIDGE AND THERE IS NO WAY TO RE-ENTER THEM AT THIS TIME WITH HIGH WATER LEVELS.
THE STRESS COULD HAVE A CATASTROPHIC EFFECT ON THE ALLREADY STRESSED LEVEES MAKING THEM BREAK. WITH THAT THOUSANDS MORE ACRES AND HOMES WOULD BE UNDERWATER, AND THE HANNIBAL BRIDGE WOULD BE FORCED TO CLOSE SHOULD IT HAPPEN.
MY QUESTION IS WHY WAS THE BRIDGE NOT RAISED BEFORE TAKING THEM OUT?

Changes in the river level
May be good news for levees in the Tri-States
By Alexis Hunt
Posted: Friday, June 20, 2008 at 5:37 p.m.
The river crest predictions have changed and that may spell good news for levees in the Tri-States. We spoke with a US Army Corps of Engineers representative.
He told us because of the Hunt and Meyer levee breaches, a single crest divided into two crest. That's why the predicted crest levels changed from Friday to Sunday.
"It does put pressure on the levee but they're designed to take that pressure...so we anticipate they can maintain," said U.S. Army Corp of Engineers representative Hank DeHaan.
Since the river levels have dropped, crews in the Sny Levee Drainage District are moving full speed ahead with work on the levee. They are putting straw in places to slow the seepage. Crews are double checking plastic on the riverside of the levee now that the water has dropped some.
They are finishing up plastic work on the levee on the farthest point south, which would be south of Pleasant Hill. They're also reworking some side slopes with bulldozers trying to get sand in place. Mike Reed stressed to us they're not taking this lull for granted and are preparing for higher water. The good news, there were *NO* hot spots for workers Friday morning.
"Since we had our crest on Wednesday, we've had 2 and a half feet taken off the top. Our seepage has decreased some, of course with the less elevation you got on those levels," said Sny Levee Drainage District Superintendent Mike Reed.
Reed says crews are also working to get township road in shape. Water seepage and heavy truck traffic have created a mess. Reed hopes to get those cleared up for better access to the levees.
Meanwhile sandbaggers are still needed for the sny island levee district. You can report to the Hull elementary school or the fairgrounds in Pleasant Hill to help.
