Hard boot: Booting a system from power off. Sometimes a computer which is "locked up," or "frozen," must be turned off and on again to clear the memory before it can be operated. A soft boot is restarting the computer without turning the power off.

Good explanation JWP...........delide.....Just Hold down on the power switch until it shuts down is a Hard Boot.....Then wait a few minutes and restart your computer.....They don't recommend to shut down this way with your computer..but sometimes it is nessary....

Poppi,

Last week I got hacked before I could "hard boot" and shut down my computer.
Prior to that I tried to go to Photobucket and got the message I posted at the top of this thread. I immediately posted the thread and did what JWP and 10s told me to do.

It was too late and I had Norton Internet Security which didn't even catch it. I called my nephew who is a computer techy and he told me Norton was a dud. He gave me the address to a site where I could download a free Antivirus program...

Norton scanned over 450,000 files and showed nothing wrong.

I uninstalled Norton and installed the other program.
I ran it and it scanned almost 600,000 files and immediately picked up the Trojan Horse I had been hit with.

I deleted the corrupted files and all is well for now. All of this took me two days to do and I'm pretty good with a computer. But I had to replace some missing files, etc.

Try shuting down your computer and then restart it and see if that helps. Sometimes the system just needs to reset itself.

Photobucket told me to create a new pass code. Which I did. They are aware of the problem. I have a block on my computer for hackers also.

Just never operate on the net without the firewall, virus scan and Hacker alert. Change pass codes often and do not use the same pass code for multiple thing. We can't stop them from trying, but be smart about our use of things. Never stay logged in all night, that is the prime time for hackers.

Flirty I had the Antivirus, Firewall, and Hacker alert and got hit anyway.

Not staying logged in to a site when not using it, not leaving the PC on over night are good advise and not using the same password for all programs and changing them often is good as well.

Some are just unstopable and an alert after the fact does no good. The damage has already been done, if you are one of the unlucky ones. I've used computers since the 80s and this was my first hit (attack).

I see some very good advise posted on this subject and it warms my heart to see folks trying to help others.
I leave my computer on but disconnect my network, my WiFi modem is connected through a network interface card. For any that would be in need of this method of securing the computer when you don't want or need to be on line, drop me an email and I'll give instructions.

PS - Glad to see some others finding what a DUD Norton/Symantec is, I figured it out in the mid 90's ...
