Remember going to the Drive-In with your girl or guy or a bunch of friends?I sure do miss those nights out.Used to go see all the bad B-movies and the scary ones were the best.I had a '74 Chevy Nova hatchback and used to back it in to the parking space and open the back and lay back and watch the movies, maybe a little coochie once in a while...lol.Delaware is loosing our last Drive-in movie this year.I hope to make there at least one last time before it closes. So grab some popcorn and soda or a few beers and lets head over to the Diamond State Drive-In...

In the 1950's Delaware had 9 drive-in theaters. Today, the Diamond State Drive-In Theater is the only drive-in left.
The Diamond State Drive-In Theatre opened for business on August 12, 1949, utilizing two large speakers on opposite sides of the screen, which could be heard 3 miles away! The theater changed hands in 1950, and the first "upgrade" was to in-car speakers.

The original screen was also quite different then, being constructed of fabric that could be raised and lowered for showings. A smaller permanent screen was put in place, and then in 1972, the screen that stands today was erected.

The Diamond State Drive-In, from its opening in 1947 until June, 2007, remained under the ownership of Mildred and Albert Steele. Mildred passed in 2005, and Albert followed in 2007...and ownership was transferred.

The new owners, upon appriasal of the land, were told it's value would be greater if the land was vacant. That said, 2008 will be the last season the Diamond State Drive-In Theater will light this section of Hwy 13.

Bocky we still have a drive in. AND a dirt race track.
Our airport has no tower or even runway lights.

1/2 the houses in the county use out houses and I know of 5 houses in town without indoor running water.

We also have deer on mainstreet and even occasionally some live stock.

But can you believe these gas prices? How is a guy suppose to go fetch eggs in the morning?

Great source of entertainment for the family--even kiddie rides ran till it got dark. We had 3 but the coolest was the FLY IN DRIVE IN--at an airport---if the movie was a bore, the landings weren't. I have a farm in warren County NJ--fairly new purchase and a departure from the seashore house--and my job in a city setting. I have an outhouse that I painted and repaired the roof---use it instead of running to the house when I am busy outside. Got to be careful of those recluse spiders The farm was a wood mill so I spend my days off learning about cutting down trees and splitting wood--with my 35 ton splitter Cool machine. Got me a "new" chicken coop and 7 Rhode Island Red chicks--and 2 full grown chickens that are like dogs--follow me all over the place. The house is all stone with fireplaces--built in 1779. I think George washington slept here. So this is my new entertainment--not exactly a drive in--but I do get to drive in the cool machinery up here. never had a tractor or a John deere backhoe before. I have been driving a fire engine for the past 35 years--the thrill is still there The last movie I saw at a drive in was a Richard Pryor Film about stock car racing--the second movie on the bill was CAR WASH.The third feature was a cartoon for those that needed to get dressed to go home.

Wow I can't remember what was the last movie I saw at the Drive -in...I'm thinking it must of been one of the "Airplane" comedy movies. But I have always liked the really gross horror movies so it could of been one of them...

I have searched high and low for a drive in speaker to display in my house---old memories of the younger days are pretty cool to have. I searched for years. STROMBERG CARLSON speakers--I can see them now as we speak. Grey with the chrome letters and the one knob--and the hook to grab the glass---ever leave and have the speaker break your glass?? I saw that happen twice. How about the guy with the flashlight walking around telling people the movie was over and they had to go home--driving with the steamed windows. And the dancing hot dog and popcorn with the soda cup--dancing on the screen--LET'S ALL GO TO THE SNACK BAR was the song. Remember the snack bar---jujubees--snow caps--non pariels--raisinettes--goobers---snickers--popcicles--french fries and over done hot dogs??????? No wonder the girls loved us BIG SPENDERS--we really shelled out the money for the finest food. I saw Bullitt in the drive in--remember the chase scene??? everybody drove like idiots after leaving the theatre. How about the CB Radio flick--CONVOY--------10--4 good buddy--rubber duck is out.
