I'll be damned if I'd let someone badger me into skippin' a day's work, one where you can make a helluva lot more than 20 bucks in one day, barely be paid enuff to make it TO & FROM the courthouse, sit there n' be bored, then wonder if I'm gonna have enuff gas to make it home or not...

SCREW THAT!!! TELL EM' YA GOT A FELONY & YA CAN'T DO IT!!!

I only had to sit on one, and only as an alternate. It was still boring as all heck. The most exciting part was being interviewed by the defense attorney after it was all said and done and having him ask me if I would have convicted this client and why. We only got $10 a day I think at the time and we had to provide all our own meals etc. Good thing the entire process was less than a week and as long as I handed over the court check I received my company paid me my full salary.

I usually get off cause my family is in law enforcement. The defendants usually don't want a juror who is pro-police sitting on the panel.

Here in the Dallas area it is one trial or one day they pay eight dollars and you have to pay your own parking.. Hell just throw the letter away then you dont have to go.. If it isnot send registered mail they cant prove that you got the darn thing...

I've got to say its a learning experance,
especially if you get a good case to hear
but if it's a childish case then its really
a sleeping matter, but they will wake you up
quickly

It sounds like it varies from state to state. Here you receive $8 a day and have paid parking. You are in a romm with 100 people and each time a new case is started, they pick a certain number of people to be questioned and if you are one of them, you go before the attorneys and the clients and they pick who they want and who they don't. I was on a nightmarish case and wish I had to chosen not to be on it. The last thing they say is if you have any reason not to want to be on this case, get up and leave.

Not showing up for jury duty is a crime and is punishable. You are given an opportunity to give a reason that you can't serve and be dismissed, but you have to show up or be fined. The letters are certified.
