Maybe I have put in a bad week, but I am beginning to think that the youth of today are lazy. They don't want to "do" anything. Don't want to finish school, work, help around the house. But do expect the parents to take care of them. Have I just put in a horrible week or have some of you noticed this also?

Probably no worse than we were....I just hate the boring outfits they wear, unflattering, juvenile. But, am
sure they know how they look! Glad I was young in the 60's and could wear bright colors and pink
bell bottoms! I do think it is sad to grow up using cell phones and computers, sad because it is difficult
to develop patience if everything is instant. We did not even have a phone until I was in high school!

More than anything I am dismayed with the mouth on some of the young people. It is not very nice to be disrespected by a teen or 20 something. My father issued out a left hook if I talked like that--he only had to do it "once". A cop smacked me for filthy language too--I remember that---it was that big boy mouth trying to be all grown up.

You are right. I think that is what drives me the craziest. the lack of respect for their parents, grandparents, other adults and even in their own peer group.

Oh you better believe it...things were not like they used to be. I used to get beat by my parents when i was young. Back then you could do that. They called it tough love. So no, you are not having a tough week. They are lazy, don't want to do anything, they dont want to help around the house. My son is 15. He wants to just listen to his IPOD, play video games, watch his NY Yankees, go outside, and not have any responsibilities. Well I broke that habit by giving him an allowance. I have bad asthma and i cant do alot of things like smell those horrible chemicals etc. Plus, what do you tell a teenager who has made the honor roll four times in high school? You just dont make it if you dont study......But i showed him who was boss when he tried to raise his hands to me. I am a single parent. He is a spitting image of his father. I took his shirt and flewwwwww him across the room and he landes on his bed LOL......i said we dont do that here or there is a suitcase in that closet with your fathers name on it....if you think he can do better, by all means, you can go......SILENCE, nothing but SILENCE....he knew....i let him know who was boss.....he has that rotten attitude....everything is whatever, sure whatever, ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Kids!
I don't know what's wrong with these kids today!
Kids!
Who can understand anything they say?
Kids!
They a disobedient, disrespectful oafs!
Noisy, crazy, dirty, lazy, loafers!
While we're on the subject:
Kids!
You can talk and talk till your face is blue!
Kids!
But they still just do what they want to do!
Why can't they be like we were,
Perfect in every way?
What's the matter with kids today?
Kids!
I've tried to raise him the best I could
Kids! Kids!
Laughing, singing, dancing, grinning, morons!
And while we're on the subject!
Kids! They are just impossible to control!
Kids! With their awful clothes and their rock an' roll!
Why can't they dance like we did
What's wrong with Sammy Caine?
What's the matter with kids today!

The kids are certainly different than they were of my generation but then so are the parents. When I was a kid I was expected to be out of my parents site for periods of time, not now. I was expected to get scrapes, cuts and bumps and not be protected from every little thing, not true in todays world. If I was acting up in school I got two whippings, one from the teacher then one when I got home, look at schools today, the kids run them. Nobody bought my 'first' car for me I earned it myself.

We weren't just alive; we actually lived. Certainly a lot different from todays world.

The toys we had when we were growing up were KID powered. And they didn't break after a few minutes use. My bike had one speed....and what seemed to be car tires.

Good post, Sherry! I think part of the problem with kids today is their parents - who seem to be confused between discipline and punishment and subsequently allow their kids to get away with almost anything in effort to be perceived as "good parents." While I don't especially believe in punishing children, I think they need a certain amount of discipline - along with a whole bunch of love.

Well, the thing is - if parents don't teach their children to respect them, how are the children supposed to grow up to have any respect for their school teachers, their bosses, police officers, or for anyone else? Our prisons are filled with adults, who as children, were never taught to have respect for anyone.

Excellent video - I saw that one awhile back and cracked up laughing...

I always took advantage of children who acted like that and thanked my own children for not doing the same. I'd ask them what they thought of that child (it was never good) and told them that I appreciated that they behaved well when they were out with me. Of course, if the groundwork isn't laid well ahead of time, nothing done "in the moment" will be effective either.

Love the video! LMAO!!!!

I remember the first time my son "freaked" in the checkout line with a full basket of groceries.... All because he wanted candy from the checkout rack! Told him "No... we have candy at home. Please put it back."

He went crazy on the floor kicking and screaming. I told the check out lady, "sorry for the inconvenienc... VOID the bill, but keep the cart here. I will be right back."

Grabbed my purse. Picked up my son, carrying him out of the store. Sat him on the ground against the front of the store.... and calmly said, "you will sit here until you get it all out. If you don't, we will leave and you will have no dinner because we don't have ANY FOOD at the house. Sooooo - you can choose to continue this animal like behavior -and go eat dirt, grass and worms when we get home.... or you can calm down, act like the nice young man that you are, and mommy will fix you a nice meal. But this behavior is not acceptable in public, and I will not tolerate it.... So which is it dirt, grass & worms, or dinner?"

Amazing how Not tolerating it and giving them choices can work!
