Share a favorite book and why it is a favorite. A favorite book is one you have read and re-read, of course. One book fits in that category for me, although it has been awhile since I read it: The Education of Little Tree by Forrest Carter. I like Grampa's wisdom and the simplicity of life in the hills.

Hi Rog, don't know about read and re read... I read 3 to 4 books a week, used to think that in event of atomic
blast (my generation believed in that, you know), I'd run for the library. I did just reread Blonde by Joyce
Carol Oates. She is prolific, uneven, but Blonde is a real tour de force. Great imagination, and it really took me
back to that era in LA. We had just moved to LA in early 60's. Not a favorite, but most recent reread. I do not
know the book you chose.

You read a lot of books! It's been awhile since I've done any focused reading. Maybe my reading days are done. Another book I really enjoyed was The World Is Made Of Glass by Morris West about Jung and a patient of his.

That sounds good, will order it, as I am into Jungian ideas just now. A writer who fascinates me is Isaac Babel.
He was a Jewish intellectual in last century who fought in Russian Revolutionary War on the side of the Red.
Red Calvary is his best known work. Who is the writer, Greene? who wrote "What They Carried".,. writes about
Viet Nam, again, strong writing. I love that story.

"Friendship" By Henry David Thoreau. I have a small leather bound copy, well worn but beautiful. It is 110 years old. I have read it so many times, if I want to pass it on to my grandchildren, I will have to stash it away and take it out only once a year. This little book was given to me by my closet friend in 1981 when we moved to opposite ends of the US. She found it at a rummage sale for $4. We met each other in 1979. People would have voted us LEAST likely to ever become friends! We have been friends for 29 years. Thoreau opens the door to the cabin of my soul.

"The language of friendship is not words but meanings"

Henry David Thoreau was born 191 years ago today.....

One of my favorite books is, "Owning Your Own Shadow" by Robert Johnson. It's a wonderful book that exposes one's own Soul, by making you aware that you have a dark side that you need to embrace, just as you embrace your good side. I read it about 3 times, and would love to read it again. I believe I've read everything he's ever written, except "Inner Work", which I'd like to read soon. Unfortunately, it's a busy time of year for me at work, and I just don't have the time to read like I used to, especially books that you need to read slowly, so you can reflect on the meaning as the words float like waves across your mind.

Other favorites of mine are, "The Art of Happiness", by the Dalai Lama. Gosh, then there’s "Memories, Dreams, Reflections", by Jung. I found that book to be a little strange, but fascinating at the same time; a book on Jung and his life growing up. His thoughts, ideas and feelings, and the way he looked at things from an early age. The introduction reads:

He looked at his Own Soul
with a Telescope. What seemed
all irregular, he saw and
shewed to be beautiful
Constellations and he added
to the Consciousness hidden
worlds within worlds.

I also like fiction, Dan Brown and Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, and many others.

Sorry to rattle on so much, but you hit on one of my passions, and I couldn't name just one favorite book.

Contentment
Balancing Heaven and Earth - Another Favorite of mine.

I guess you can tell I really like Johnson's style.

I'm a huge James Patterson fan. If you read a lot and your public library isn't that grat, there's this great website where you basically trade books. It's called paperbackswap.com. It's fantastic.

I've been averaging 20-30 books a year, some of them re-reads, but just one?
I keep The Game of Life and How to Play it..Florence scoville shinn on my night stand
and re-read countlessly because it's a great guide to life; every so often I need some reminders.

Presently re-reading If The Buddha Dated to see if I can finally find the mindset to stay grounded on my path while dating. So far I'm not doing so well, but I'll keep at it...

I've picked up the Education of Little Tree a few times but not read it yet. I should have bought it the second time I picked it up!
and Owning Your Shadow is on the book list I carry with me everywhere. My clients all canceled for today so maybe it's a great day to get to the library.
