They don't grow on the east side unless one plants and waters. High in the Colville Mtns and even way more as one goes further east into Idaho and Montana.... the Huckleberries! In the lower Okanogans, there are lots of Saskatoons or service berries... aand i'd drink a late nite coffee... and hammer here for a while... naahh... a chamomile tea? what'cha got?

No one makes that anymore--the new young firefighters can't cook like the old timers. we had 3 squares everyday--cooks cooked--everyone cleaned. NOW----have you ever went food shopping on a tractor trailer hook and ladder??? Just part of the fun we used to have.

There isn't a day that goes by that we sit by a store and take the opportunity to change it into a public relation opportunity--parents with kids love a quick tour of the trucks--the chance to sit in the driver's seat--blow the horn---even take photos. we had 2 separate deaths--a chief killed in a propane explosion and a 21 year old killed in a building collapse during a fire. It still chokes me up to recall the hundreds of different memorials and flowers and food brought by neighborhood people to the firestations. The funeral processions were viewed by thousands of people--it totally amazed us. Absolutely stunned us to see a city stand still for the processions for these guys. We always say that there are no strangers--just people we haven't met yet. Our only hope is that every town has fire, EMS, and police who "enjoy" working for the citizens. Could be just the job for you. the requests for transfer to that particular duty is heavier than the demand to get the duty I have. Everyone wants to do it. Well --until they slam a parked car or scrape a telephone pole. That end of the truck gets beat up--really bad. And you better be fast when the bells ring--that truck may leave without you.
