thanks, I quit the drinking a couple months ago and I have kinda quit smoking on and off since then, I feel its time there is just like one thread holding on to me, it seems like more of a habit thing. I'll keep trying - maybe a good man in my life would take my mind off of it...... then again maybe not.
Oh, good for you I am proud of you for quitting, I did it before for years but for some stupid reason went back and have had problems quitting since. Thanks again for the support.

Hi Ready,

Started taking the chantix last week. Quit date is 10/16/07. You start medication one week before you're quit date. New medication to help with the addiction factor. I've tried before (with nicotine patches and gum) and never went beyond three days. I'm hoping this helps me do it this time. I've often thought we should check in to a substance abuse clinic... some of us need all that support and help to kick this habit... good bye.

In preparation to get rid of the smell:

I've started washing down the walls, next the drapes and slip covers etc.
Made an appointment to clean inside of my car (day before quit date)
Had my hygenist appointment for a cleaning this week
Stocking up on gum and lemon drops

My motivation is the "smell" not concerned anymore with the health effects... probably too late for that. But I know how bad it smells because even as a smoker I can smell it on others... so can't imagine what I smell like to a non smoker!

Hope we make it girl

I want to quit but I don't want to....My biggest motivation is meeting someone that doesn't smoke...if it works out ... i'm gonna lay them down...if it don't...I don't know yet...I just don't want to deal with the weight gain...and yes I know there are ways around that but I am a wuss sometimes...but I will do it for love...

I managed to quit on memorial day. I smoked all my camels and then finishe off cloves, I think the cloves helped with fullfiling the need. I only smoked them for 3 days. That was it, I look4ed at it this way, if I can go for 6-8 hours of sleeping without having to smoke, should be able to convince myself to go the other hours of the day..worked for me..

I smoked off and on for 42 years, at the last was smoking 3 1/2 packs a day. I quit May 6, 2006 for good because I couldn't afford them anymore and I didn't want my granddaughters calling me "stinky" grandma. I went to a chiropractor and had an auricular therapy done. Period. It is needleless acupuncture. It controls cravings. I no longer wanted a cigarette. Once in a blue moon a thought flittered thru my head "cigarette" poof it was gone. I tried the gum, patch, etc. This is the only way to go, easy, no side effects, no crazy dreams, nothing. If you feel like you need a "new" zap, the chiropractor I went to, it was "no charge". Most of them will re-zap you for free if you haven't smoked. It is the easiest way to quit smoking I have ever heard of. Plus, I lost weight. I asked the chiropractor how and he said that the 8 points they zap is for cravings. LOL bookshort

I am starting the Chantix again as of yesterday. Did it a couple months ago for about a month then fell off it. It works well when you take it, it really takes the craving away, but the oral and what to do with your hands is still there. It's not cheap either, it costs about 110.00 a month. I do want to quit for health reasons, but i do enjoy it as well. That's why it's been hard for me. I figure if I can cut way down, im ahead at this point.

WOW! what terrific support. A huge thanks to all of you. I think we all need to stick together and support each other positively and maybe we will all be able to do it and keep it DONE! Great suggestions. This really is a great place to be, all the responses were wonderful and now none of us have to feel alone as we go through this tough time in our lives.
