| I'd hope we'd all be mature enough to share, respect and not tear others to pieces:
there's enough of that going on already.....
We are all "free" to believe ,share opinions,thoughts,dreams,ideas.....it doesn't bother me one bit if someone doesn't believe as I do....it's ok,really!
As long as it's kept respectful and not hurting others...

Thank you. That is my hope as well. I have seen some bad apples on both sides spoil a couple otherwise fantastic threads, but I think most of us can get past those few.

Personally I like to find that common thread which exists in all views and paths to God.. to me we are one, and that is where I prefer to place my focus, not on what divides us.
I don't mind you sharing at all, on the contrary I appreciate you sharing your open minded stance : )

| Well how I have seen this handled on another forum is they have what is referred to as "General Religion." General Religion is a forum in which ANYONE can post and debate and disagreement is to be expected (provided it can remain civil) In other words, you can argue the subject matter and material but you cant insult a member on a personal level.
I can’t say you Christian bastard, you smell!
I can say Christians and Christianity is a religion associated with atrocity and human suffering over the past 3000 years. Discuss...
And then we can have a Christian only forum in addition to the General Religion forum in which Christians are free to post whatever they want there. They can feel free to proselytize all they want but they are NOT permitted to do this in General Religion. Any post they make for the sole purpose of conversion or to address Christians only, will be moved over to the Christian forum and the OP warned not to do it again.
You will still have arguments but this seems to be one way to greatly reduce the fighting and cyber holy wars.

| Papa, Shakti and X( I just can't spell it right) I'm really glad to see some real communication going on, I too see more of what different religions have in common and feel we are all one, and all of us have our own levels of understanding.I feel that is why we all need each other so much, to co-instruct each other in the things we should know.I thank you Shakti for your attention to keeping things real and fair to all, I only object to being evangelized and I think we are all looking at making this a positive thread in which we can exchange ideas and beliefs with out fear.I want to thank Shared Mercy for really trying to understand, and trying to help make this a place of peace.

Exactly.
General Religion- In this forum, ANYONE of any belief system (or lack there of) can post and begin threads freely. It is observable to all. The assumption that is made here is that anything that you post or any threads that you begin can and will become the subject of debate, civil and controlled argument or confrontation. Christians will NOT be permitted to begin threads for the sole purpose of proselytizing or with the assumption that "Christianity is the only path".
Christian forum-In this forum Christians are allowed to post WHATEVER they want. They can proselytize until the cows come home. It’s a forum for Christian views and beliefs. The assumption that a Christian can make is when they post in this forum it will be observable to other Christians and Catholics.
The two SHALL not meet. This addresses your concern that you do not want to feel preached to or attacked by Evangelicals. They CAN NOT do that in the General Religion forum and any threads that are made to "praise the lord" or anything that assumes Christianity is the "one true path" will be moved back over to the Christian forum where it needs to stay. That poster will be warned also. They are only allowed to do that once before suspensions start happening.

Oh but they can preach exclusivity of truth in the religion forum, it happens ALL the time and in fact, there are no explicit rules against it. That was a shock to me when I first began posting on this site, I was used to a moderated site with rules that are actually enforced.
In fact, the one rule about atheists not being allowed to post in the religion forum is the one that I see brought up more than any other.
I look past quite a bit of that in the religion forum, it would be a full time job to comment each time I see it. But in this group, I make a point of saying that exclusivity of truth is inappropriate and I don't care what label that is done under. Because christians aren't the only ones espousing that essentially closed minded stance...

I've dated a muslim, one of my great friends is Jewish whose best friend is a Wiccan. I've had neighbors that were highly evangelical (it somewhat got on my nerves), and I've had a couple Satanist and Buddhist friends...and the best part is that they didn't judge me nor did I judge them. I rather enjoyed their company.

| Any time we take our eyes off deity, and put our faith in humans instead, and because (like they say in AA)humans have clay feet, we are as apt to fall as they are. Keeping our eyes way above humans, our chances are much better that we will as cend , rather than fall.

| Yes I don't fit the mainstream stuff in fact the mainstream fluff annoys the Hell out of me. Evangelist I am on the verge of haten' people like that, some of them come off as if they have taken WAY to much prozac. Then I sit back an laugh at them, because they are so into their religion and they need to take depression medicine, think about that one, . I know that's not what this thread is about but still, as a Christian but not a bible thumping moron I do have a different frame of mind. And in truth I'm a realist who prefers to learn from both sides of something first, I don't allow my beliefs to interfer with the situation.
For instance, I was at my favorite fishing spot when I heard the screech of tires on pavement coming from the road a few yards behind me. A moment later I heard the sound of a car crashing into something, curious as much as concerned I went to see if anyone was hurt. There was four people in a car, three of them had gotten out, but the third was in the passenger seat unconcious and bleed from the forehead. The three were PRAYING for divine intervention instead of seeing to their friend, I have some medical training so I immeadiately saw to the injured man. They keep at me to leave him alone until help arrives but none of them had used their cell phones to call for help yet, they had to pray first. I saw smoke coming from the car hood and gentle as I could moved the man to a safe distance, all the while these three were yapping about God will provide. The only thing I wanted from God was a way to knock some common sense into this people. After tending to the man, and FINALLY getting one of them to call 911, I waited for the ambulance then went back to fishing annoyed an highly pissed off that people like that exist. The last thing I heard from them was that God would strike me down for interferring in HIS work. "Bite me, and F*ck off" was the last thing I said to them.
Later on in town I bumped into one of the EMT's who had responded to the crash, she said "Thank God that He had made sure you were there when you were." I replied, "god didn't have anything to do with it, and if'n he did. It was to make sure they crashed where they did because he knew they would not do anything to help that guy." Well I had a few extra frilles and dresses to what I said but I don't recall all the cuss words so I left that out.

| I believe that no religion has all the answers. All religions were made by MAN not the Creator.
Only the Divine knows what will truely happen at the end of time, or where we will all end up,(heaven, hell, pergatory, part of the universe)and even be Judged. It is just our job to try to love and accept each other for who and what we are. We are commanded to LOVE. Love our neighbor as we love ourselves, and the problem is most people in this life do not love themselves and they have very low selfesteem this is why they can not show love to others. This has nothing to do with religion. It has to do with the condition of ones heart and conscience.
I think all should be able to post everywhere. It is a free country and we all have a right to freedom of speech whither others like it or not.
I may not like what one has to say personally, and it may piss me off royally, but I will defend your right to say it.

You know what? I honestly feel like I have to explain every little thing to you in order to have thye most basic of conversations. And then you accuse me of twisting your words? Wow.
I didn't say YOU were doing the choosing, all along you have been bragging that you are one of the chosen ones! By God I would presume, correct?
And when I asked if that meant many others were left out, you said I could choose to accept Jesus or whatever, which would include me in the ranks of those chosen by God...
So which is it? God chooses me, or I choose Jesus??

| And what of the countless masses who lived and died before Jesus? Are they banished to Hell for the egregious "sin" of not being alive at the proper time?!
Sorry for intruding, couldnt resist! Hell in the English transaltions, was the word used to replec several words, none of which was a burning place where people were sent for eternity.
Where did the Christian concept of hell come from?
A number of distinct words and concepts in the original Hebrew and Greek that the Bible was written in were all translated into the single English word hell, from the Teutonic word ‘hel’ which meant ‘to cover’ and later was the name of the Norse goddess of the underworld and later of the underworld itself. In Middle English the word “hell” meant merely to cover or conceal and was thus a fitting translation for what was called Hades in Greek and Sheol in Hebrew. It only came to refer exclusively to a place of eternal torment in the English language later.
Sheol
This is the word in the original Hebrew that is sometimes translated as hell. Judaism did not originally have an idea of an immortal soul that survived death—this was a pagan concept. The original Jewish belief was one of “ashes to ashes and dust to dust.” Although Sheol later evolved into a type of shadowy afterlife in some circles influenced by Greek spirituality, originally the term Sheol meant merely the grave. The good and bad alike go here. The King James Version of the Bible translates the “Old Testament” word Sheol 31 times as hell, 31 times as grave, and 3 times as pit. While it evolved to serve different purposes, in its original context the word refers to the state of nonexistence in death.
Hades
Whereas the “Old Testament”—the Jewish Bible—was written in Hebrew, the “New Testament” was written in Greek, and Hades is the Greek word used for Sheol—the grave. This word, which means “unseen” (the Greek god of the underworld, Hades, had a helmet that made him invisible), again describes the state of being dead and in the ground—although by the time of the “New Testament” the Greek shadowy underworld concept had become more accepted in certain segments of the Jewish culture. (http://www.tentmaker.org/articles/Lazarus-byHuie.htm).
Tartaros
In 2 Pet. 2:4 this word is used to describe a place where angels, not human beings, that have sinned are temporarily imprisoned. This is a reference to certain apocryphal works that describe “watcher angels” rebelling and being chastised. In Greek mythology Tartaros is the place where the titans are kept after they lose the battle with the gods.
Gehenna
This word is used by Jesus to reference a physical (not ethereal) and specific (not abstract) garbage dump in the southwest of Jerusalem where the physical bodies (not ethereal spirits) of criminals were disposed of and cremated in flames instead of being given an honorable burial (since the Jews didn’t believe in a soul separate from the physical body, this was the equivalent of destroying the soul, since without a corpse the individual could not be resurrected). When Jesus says hell in contexts such as "Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?” (Matthew 23:33) Gehenna is the word actually used.
Excerpts taken from:http://bendench.blogspot.com/2009/04/origin-of-hell.html
As for the dead? The Bible tells us that after Christ died, he spent the next couple days, preaching in the place where the dead dwell.
1 Peter 3:18–20 (NASB)
18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;
19 in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison,
20 who once were disobedient
This shows I think, that even after we are dead, God still holds his hand out in recncilaition for us.
And, no they are not in a burning Hell. Just my opinion.

| Sorry for intruding, couldnt resist! Hell in the English transaltions, was the word used to replec several words, none of which was a burning place where people were sent for eternity.
You are not intruding! I would never want to exclude the views of those who wish to contribute in an atmosphere of learning and respect, so stop saying that! I insist! lol..
If someone wants to believe that there is a hell that they need to be saved from, then it doesn't matter the argument to the contrary, they will continue to believe. They benefit from the belief even though others supposedly perish. They also seem to enjoy waving their ticket to heaven in the faces of those they deem hellbound. Hardly the feel I get from Jesus's message, but hey.. to each their own.
As I have said before, those folks only condemn themselves anyway.
Nice to see you in these parts, come again!

| Shakti ,Dunrich both of you are very interesting to relate with and I enjoy it very much, I can not subscribe to the idea that if Jesus were alive today that things would be this organized institution that has run amuck, in terms oh what his ministry was then and what it has become. My persception of things just doesn't click with a lot of other peoples, and that's okay, IMO

| Because there's a big difference in the what the church is now compared to then, and consequently what most people think Jesus' ministry is, and what his real message was., I won't have someone thumpin a bible at me either, If you feel that the Bible is the inspired Holy word of God and that it hasn't been messed with in many ways, well and if that works for you , I'm very thrilled and happy for you. Every one should have their religion work for them , if not they should lose it, and get some spirituality in what ever works for them and what works best for me , they already removed from the Bible, so if the church works , whatever church works for you , I couldn't be happier for you , just don't try to make me buy your perception of God/Goddess and I will not try to impose mine on you. That's where the trouble all starts ultimatly. That's why

Yeshua (Jesus) was a communist, and that's not an insult. He had the beautiful philosophy of "if you have more than you need, give the excess to someone in need." (summary.)
You are correct that the modern institution would not exist were he really running it. He would be appalled at the things said about him and the horrors done in his name. Then again, even their book said there would be those who call good evil and evil good within their own church. Apparently those are often the church leaders these days.
You and I agree on a lot of things, including much of what I quoted of you above. The only difference is that I don't mind if folks want to discuss the Bible with me. I think it's a beautiful book and part of my ministry includes understanding how others think and believe as well as learning from a variety of scripture. Talking to others about the Bible, the Bhagavad Gita, or any other holy book is, to me, important.
However, at the same time I don't believe that such action is right for everyone. You don't like to discuss it much, so perhaps there are other pursuits more important to you and your path. I believe it's important for everyone to try to understand other religions and be accepting, but not everyone has to discuss them and study them to the extent I enjoy. It's important to me because it's part of my life's path, but it may be more important for others to learn and discuss other things.
Ultimately, it is wrong, in my opinion, to try to force another to listen to your message. If you care that much for them, know that no amount of force will ever convince them. Yeshua wanted people to teach through words to those who want to listen and by example to everyone whether they listen or not.
Namaste,
Daniel

| Daniel, I think the bible is a very wonderful book with passages of wisdom, and much right thinking I have many Bibles, different versions, I however, wish to share with others their views and my views, that doesn't mean any need adopt my personal understandings and spirituality, or vice versa, but I was asked why and that is why I answered that way, because I was waiting, for an argument and I won't argue, I will however, say what I think or feel, and almost every time I stick my neck out, and say what I really feel, someone wants to know why when I just told them why. So I said what I felt. Before there was any question about it.

I see where you're coming from. You don't want to have the same tired arguments with folks. I can definitely understand and empathize with that one. I know you seek knowledge. I hope you didn't take anything I said as a judgment of you. I hope you know I think you're a pretty awesome person to call a friend.
My intent was only to say that my path puts me in a place where I end up hearing the same tired arguments over and again. Usually it doesn't bother me. If I hear the same arguments, I can create better responses to those arguments as I'd be more prepared for them. Sometimes it can be irritating, so again, I do understand.

| You know I really appreciate that because I'm sorry I just wanted to nip in the bud what I feel would eventually come from that, but I check profiles and I'm sure the person I responded too, is a wonderful person but on the other hand, that's not the point, the point is, I have many times simply lurked too afraid to say what I need to cuz I feel I will be pounced upon , and the whole point of the subject of this thread, is should Christians be allowed to post in here, case in point, so where do I go???? To avoid that Daniel? I'll say it again, when I go into the smoking lounge I sure don't even risk the threat of that in there.I really don't want to be exclusive as Jesus himself was all inclusive, but this is not where it was at, then.if ( and it seems crazy to me as Jesus is the man, one of the many acended ones, was not enoch as well, who were said to be transported directly to God?and I'm calling others those Christians, when even tho I'm very universal, probably lean toward gnostisim, and who thinks this Jesus is not important to me, who says the way I express my spirituality is wrong, they do, every chance they get to evangelize me. Other religions is supposed to be a place for me, free of that, and it's not! I don't care about going in their thread, why should they care so much to come in here knowing it's gonna cause conflict.

It gets tedious, and I so tire of the my way is the only way creeping in every possible issue under the sun. I'd like to have a discussion here, once in a while, where it is understood that ALL paths are right.
Is it so much to ask?

Hey, I definitely understand. I do wish there was a "New Age" forum or something along those lines that was more exclusive. I like having a catch-all group like this because of the variety of discussion, but it would be nice if dh had something where we could feel free to express our voices without being pounced upon by idiots trying to convert us. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any new groups of any sort added in the time I've been here and doubt we ever will.

Yeah, that's more and more where I'm leaning lately. I thought we could all be civil and there are still a few cool Christians who post here, but damn the preaching in every single thread is getting irritating! If they need to express their faith, that's what the Christian group is for.
I know that some of them intentionally want to disrupt our threads. When I was a Christian I knew several so-called "Christians" who did exactly things like that.
Oh well, again, there's nothing we can do about it but keep saying we want our own group.

Oh well, again, there's nothing we can do about it but keep saying we want our own group. And really well said ,Daniel, you know I love people, but I love myself as well, and it's counter productive to what we're wishing to achieve, will no ill intent toward any preciose soul whatsoever, but I have a choice, and I choose to stand firm if not frequent on this issue, it's a conviction from by my core being that right is right and wrong is wrong, and IMO to me,or as applied to me,this is not right and it is out of balance, to me the place for everybody to throw in is religions on the forums let them all duke it out in there! I don't say this to exclude people I say it to exclude negativity of any kind, if people need sharp debate let them do that with others who enjoy that sort of excitement, one of the major things I learned early on in life was There is only one person I can change, me.My free will, chooses to try not to tolerate bickering, and another choice is never be where you don't want to be, we have a choice of where we place ourselves, and to bad I have to fight for that conviction, but I fight as lovingly gently and sincerely as I possibly can.Having no ill intent towards anyone including me!

| But we do have the choice, if someone is preaching exclusivity of truth and being disrespectful, we can block them. Simple as that.
You know.. I have noticed that there has only ever been one atheist in here who made the above infractions. Are they even allowed to post here? I honestly have no idea.. is it just the 'didn't say' people and christians? It would upset me if christians are allowed to post here but not atheists.
I still think the good ones shouldn't have to pay for the bad examples. I also think that the christians whose views do not fall into the mainstream should have a place to go.. there have been many along the way who have expressed that they are grateful for such a place.
But my views are strongly pluralistic.

| Maybe the break down should be, main stream Christian Religions and others?
Gnostics for example, do not fall with in the 'Christian type fold", yet do believe in Christ. Where do they fit in?
Maybe it shoud be broken down as Religous and Spirutual? Churh members and individualistic types? What I am trying to point out is, those that are considered under the banner of Christian, range from one extreme to the other.
We have people that have made statements that the only ones who are really Christian are Roman Catholics, one poster thinks if you do not have "gifts from the spirit( charismatic}you are not Christian.
Me, I hate the term Christian, I prefer Christ Follower, yet admit that by the definition given that is the group I am closer to. LOL, Profiles do not have 'Christ Follower" as an option. That in it self tells us all we need to know.
People like "labels", plain and simple. So to be able to label, we seek out their differences rather than what we have in common.Oh I understand that some want to talk amongst their group with out getting ganged up on.
But I would sure love to be able to learn what others think, see what we have in common. Strange, I thought that was what Religion meant, eh? But then I believe that belief is an individualistic thingy. But man, they have to go and group us. Pity eh?
hey Shakti, it just dawned on me why the Grave yard is one. Not enough grouping to attract dissension and controversey. Its too pluralistic, too much respect , cant get ratings that way. Good for you,for you are living your breathing your ideals. But untill more in the world are like you, sad, Grave Yards will be way too quiet.

I've blocked one or two annoying posters in threads. Most people who start threads either don't monitor them or don't want to block the posters for whatever reason. The thread originator is the only one who can. However, it also cuts off all further dialogue between the offending poster and the thread starter because it completely blocks them for that user. That's unfortunate.
There have been times when I've had to responsibly block someone from a thread because they were getting out of hand, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't want to talk to the person when they're feeling a bit calmer and more rational. I get irritating at times too because I have an outgoing, strong personality. I'd hate to lose a potential friend because they had to block me entirely for one or two bad posts.
I wish there was a way to just delete the bad post from a thread or block for just one thread, but because there isn't I know that makes a lot of folks hesitant to block anyone.
So, I'm not sure what the solution would be other than continuing to ask for respect and hoping that most will listen. Other than that ignoring works sometimes.
Namaste,
Daniel

| After reading an extremely arrogant and disgusting thread over at the Christian only thread, I have this advice for you. My conclusion has come after seeing that none but one, have the courage to respond to their own when they are wrong, but are so quick to respond to others failings.
Keep them out of here.
How they can spot other peoples splinters with such huge logs in their own eyes is beyond me. I am ashamed, I have to share a label with them and am very sorry this is the case.
As a nehibour, it is my advice to you.
