i have a diff brand dvd recorder and have had this happen also.Is it a blank one that you are trying to record on or one that is recorded allready? If its like mine ,when stuff is recorded on it ,it has to be finalized before it can be played on another dvd player.is it a dvd-r or dvd+r some recorders will only work with one or the other. If none of this works ,mail me back and i will try and help more.

I also have a Cyberhome DVD recorder with the same problem, I get the same message you do. It worked fine for nine months and then started to have a problem reading rental DVDs, and now it does not even like the DVDs I recorded on it that used to play fine.

I bought the unit at Best Buy for next to nothing, because someone returned it. BB repaired it and then put it back out on the sales floor. The guarantee on mine has expired, and I don't see any reason to pay to repair it, because DVD recorders are so cheap now. I think I will move up to a high definition player and forget about recording.

I doubt if this was any help, but at least you know you are not alone. I think Cyberhome is an inferrior brand prone to this problem.
