Good Morning, everyone.

Ann Coulter has an excellent article about the poor, abused terrorists.

I love the way she makes her points using sarcasm.

A good article to read with your morning coffee.

I love Ann Coulter. She tells it like it is. Oh, the link:

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it. - Ronald Reagan

Hodag, I posted a few of Reagan's great moments that are on youtube.com last night in "Real Characters", I thought of you when I posted them...knew you'd love em.

I especially love the one when Sam Donaldson asks him if he is to blame for the economy as it is (at that time)...his answer is way cool...

Reagan's humor reminds me a lot of the way my father's humor was. He joked in the same manner...

One time when I was a child, my 5 brothers and I were sitting at the table with Daddy, the conversation led somehow to who was the best looking baby of any of them....they all claimed to be the one who was...finally one of them asked my Dad, Daddy who was the prettiest baby in the family? My Dad looked up and said, "I was!" Discussion over, we all died laughing. He was a riot, and so was Reagan. They both knew how to answer a question without provoking anger, and answer it in a way, you NEVER expected.

Morning everyone. Did a poll in the Texas chat on seceding from the union. Looks like the majority want to, however a slim majority. So I guess Texas, is still a state

Looks cloudy outside...is it raining everywhere in the U.S. this week or what?

yawn... good morning.. wait, well, another 2 1/2 hours it'll be morning again.

just another 85+ day in Sunny Southeast Texas. Hot and muggy after all this rain we had over the past week.

Pure? you've warned the man about the slight difference in weather patterns?

it was a long day. I was in an attic for most of the morning, crawling around trying to identify where a leak was coming from. I patched the roof 6 weeks ago, it's rained several times since, and only last Friday's 4" within an hour, did it leak again. When I called the leasing agent, so he could call the owner and get approval for me to start punching holes in the ceiling of the 1st floor to find it, he said, he doesnt know what the owner will want to do. haha, well, let's do nothing and allow it to continue to leak,,, hehe, I'll bill that 3 hours plus a trip charge.
After that 55 mile trip for the first job, I pop 20 miles west of it, to put up 50' or so of fence pickets. I was told the fence and cross pieces were in place, so all I would have to do is nail up the pickets. It appears the owner of this property wasn't exactly honest with the leasing agent. I snap a couple photos, send them to him via the cell phone, he says wait til he calls the owner. I'm charging $3/ft to nail the pickets up. Using a nail gun, 8 penny galv nails. Figured I'd pick up a quick $150. But, no top rail to nail to, and there wasn't enough 2x4's on site for me to even put those up. The owner's b/f had put the post in, and I guess told her he just needed to nail the pickets. He wouldn't go back to finish so I get the call.
Long story short, she wants a quote for me to finish that 1 side, 70', not 50, plus the other side and back. Then the 2 short sections from the outside to the house, plus a 4' gate on each side.. She won't pay my price, but I did send a nice little service call bill for $75 tonight.

So my day kinda sorta sucked. But it's P.O.E.T.S. Day...
Phooey On Everything Tomorrow's Saturday!

Thanks Deb, that beer must have worked. Woke up at 3 and on my second cup already

Sounds about as bad as when I was still doing TV/VCR repair Knight. It got to the point that I had to charge the $30 estimate fee up front because people would find out the repair would cost $100 on a TV that could be replaced with a Wal Mart cheapie for $129 and I'd be stuck with a broken TV and a $20 disposal fee (in Washington State) for my trouble.

I just don't work and play well with the public anymore I guess

Before the arrival of European settlers in northern Rhode Island during the 17th century, today's Woonsocket region was inhabited by three Native American tribes — the Nipmucs (Cowesett), Wampanoags, and Narragansetts. In 1661, the English theologian Roger Williams purchased the area from the "Coweset and Nipmucks," and in a letter referred to modern day Woonsocket as "Niswosakit."

Other possible derivations to the name include several Nipmuc geographic names from nearby Massachusetts. These include Woonksechocksett, from Worcester County meaning "fox country," and Wannashowatuckqut, also from Worcester County, meaning "at the fork of the river".

Another theory states Woonsocket derives from "thunder mist," in reference to the largest waterfall on the Blackstone River, which lies at the center of the city.

Hmmm...

Woonsocket, South Dakota gets it's name from Woonsocket, Scotland according to a South Dakota trivia book published a few years back. Settled mostly by Scottish settlers.

It didn't explain how Bucksnort Junction got it's name though

I felt so ornery getting up that early I was thinking about going out and waking up the birds

There is no Woonsocket, Scotland...sorry.

The City of Woonsocket began in 1883 at the junction of the Chicago, Milwaukee, and Saint Paul Railroads. The superintendent of the railroad was C.H. Prior, and he named the new town Woonsocket, after his home town of Woonsocket, Rhode Island. Lake Prior, located in the center of town, is named after Mr. Prior. The town of Woonsocket grew rapidly. The first day lots were offered for sale, 50 lots were sold. Woonsocket grew so fast that it was called "Boomstrucket."

Morning everyone, checking in. Did any of you hear about the woman in California who claims here step-father was the Zodiac Killer. He died in like 1993. She claims she realized who it was when she saw a artist depiction of him. But had never heard of the zodiac killer ever, before just very recently.

What planet does California reside in? I've known about the zodiac killer for like what...30 years now. Makes you wonder if she is just looking for some publicity. Publicity with that though is pretty desperate.

Has anyone else heard about this?

Sorry Knightkosd that your feeling bad. Eat WHITE (light green) grapes, it will help you get over the flu and open your nasal passages.

If you eat a handful every day, it will help your body prevent itself from getting a cold.

Deb,

Thank you, my Dear, for starting this general discussion forum. This is something our little piece of DH needed.

Does anyone have any opinions, in favor of or opposed to, investing in precious metals. I have been doing some research on the subject and have watched some videos by Gerald Celente and the late Aaron Russo. I am not rich, and the little I have in my 401K has been cut in half thanks to the incompetence of the "president". People a lot smarter than me all seem to be in agreement that investing in silver and gold is a smart move, especially considering current events and the devaluation of the dollar. Gerald Celente claims we are heading into a depression that will make 1929 look like a day at the beach, and he gives several compelling reasons why he believes this.

Without divulging any personal information, do any of you have any advice on this subject?
I would appreciate any and all comments.

As I see it, the problem with the 'gold' market, is just that. It's tied to the stock exchange. The marketing is based on how most of us trust the gold vs the dollar. Is gold inflated right now because of the stock markets crashing? Remember, the same guys who control the stock market, control the gold markets.

My opinion is to buy coins. You have something in your hand. You OWN it.

All these companies that advertise they buy gold, basically give you 10% on the dollar. I'm one of those people who stop for garage sales. I have a couple jewelers loops, and one stays in the truck. Before getting out, I pick it up and stick it in my pocket. Folks, you'd be surprised how often I find .999 silver for a dime. A broach, a pair of ear rings, necklaces, and rings. I don't have a lot of money either, but when I buy gold or silver, I take it home with me.

Don't be taken with ebay or criagslist ads on gold and silver.

Morning people

Hodag's question about Gold seems pretty relevant lately.

If I were investing in Gold and Silver I'd want something I could put in my hand not a piece of paper that says I have X amount of Gold someone else is holding for me. If the fecal material does interface with the air movement apparatus Gold in a safe in NYC does me zero good. Besides, Obammy might pull an FDR like move and order all privately held Gold be confiscated, if they don't know I have it.....

1/10 Oz. Gold and 1 Oz. Silver coins would likely be most useful for barter but larger coins and ingots are better for investment. Depends on WHY your buying it.

Around here at least Pawn shops will give the best price for scrap Gold and Jewelry. They weigh it and calculate the actual Gold content and pay about 85-90% of spot price. Spot minus $2/Oz. for Gold and $.25/Oz. for Silver was what we paid for coins/ingots but that was back in 1986.

We had a tornado come through our town last night...tore some houses and also hit our Walmart pretty bad, as well as some other businesses around it...Lights went out about 8 and didn't come back on till the wee hours of the morning.

We have another storm, supposed to be just like last night's on it's way. Yep it's May in Texas! (central that is)

It was some kind of hot last night trying to get some sleep, no air conditioning and no fan either...couldn't open a window cause a TREE might have flown through it...lol

Trees are uprooted all over town and some people's houses got hit really bad.
