I am 44 years old, live in a small town. I work at home and have three grown kids and a 9 year old. I take night classes at our local college, working toward my associates degree and then paralegal certification. I don't go a lot of places except those necessary - school, grocery shopping, activities with my kids/grandkids.

I don't go to bars - there are NO single men in my church - the produce department at the grocery store just is NOT producing - and the internet has been a fun place to play and make some chatting acquaintances.... but I am lonely for something REAL!

Honestly, where does one go to meet someone? I feel quite stuck! I really hope I get some responses on this, because this is a serious request for ideas! ( I go to the gym, too, but no one there is interested! Even my trainer is a woman!)

Thanks you guys!

K.

I live in a big city, but I still haven't found anyone yet! Anyhow, I don't have much of an answer, but you should go to places (or keep going to places) you like to go for fun and find someone that you share the same interests with. For some reason, I have a hunch that a bookstore is a nice place to meet some cool men.

You can also meet some cool men on here as well! Welcome aboard, and I hope you find what you looking for!

I am in the same boat. Small town, full time job, 3 kids still living at home. I go out with my friends from time to time, but I live in a navy town, and most of the guys here are YOUNG! I've done the internet dating thing off and on, but like you, I want to meet someone real. So I'm listening for suggestions too!

I like the bookstore idea and I love to hang out at Barnes & Noble. However, the closest Barnes & Noble is about an hour away and I dont' get to go often! Thanks for the responses. I look forward to hearing more ideas.

Sorry southernlady, that you have to travel far for a bookstore. Being in a small town may have its disadvantages, huh?

While in the produce department you must be selective about what you squeeze.

I live near a town of 65 people in the middle of no where. If I only knew where you could meet someone.

You people are telling me that you go to all these places and all the men/woman you meet are unavailable? First of all, I doubt every man in a church, grocery store, bar/club, or whereever is taken. Maybe what we are looking for is too high, and we need to lower our expectations a bit. You may be surprised how good average looking men can be.

I'm not looking for Brad Pitt! I'm looking for someone real with whom to build a friendship and a relationship! I am not so shallow as to pass by someone who does not look like a calendar model!

I live in a very small town where I have run out of places to meet people. The only "standard" or "expectation" I have is to find someone who will be as good to me as I am to them....share, laugh, live, learn, and eventually love!

As a matter of fact, quite the opposite in my situation - most of the men I see or meet are the ones who will pass ME by because of MY looks!

P.S. NO...there are not any single men in the church that I attend! If you'll look more closely, I said that I do not go to bars (not that everyone in the bar is taken)...and the grocery store bit was for humor!

I am looking for different places and ways to meet people............

I'm 51 years old and it seems like it's a competition with younger women but it's not I've learned. It's about confidence in who you are and I have guys in their 20's and 30's asking if I would like to meet them.
I've met people from the internet which is not a bad thing at all once you get to know them. It usually takes me 5 min to a few weeks to discover whether they are someone I want to meet. I will get their name and enough information about them to know if it is safe for me. You can check them out to see if there is criminal histories for free and other public records which will tell you if they are honest and truthful about what they say.
Now if someone has a problem with that then they are hiding something. They can check me out as well. I have nothing to hide.
I've never met someone to date in the grocery store or bookstore. I did meet someone at the neighborhood pool I dated for a year and a half. I wasn't even looking at the time, it just happened.
If you look on the dating sites, use caution, get to know the person well and always meet in the beginning at a public place. Usually the first meeting will determine if there is a second.
Someone worth waiting for will be in it for the long haul.
