Vista is a challenge. Took me quite a while to get used to it and I still don't get along with it well or like it very much! Best thing is to do the hours of tutorials to learn it. I wish you luck!

What seems to be the problem? I havea fairly new HP laptop with Vista loaded and it's really little more than an updated version of XP. Perhaps you could elaborate?
Perhaps I should add that Vista ain't your new version of windows 98, or even Pro 2000. My first impression was that Vista was constructed so that non-geeks wouldn't want to format the hard drive and load Red Hat or maybe even Apple's OS. It might help if you loaded Mozilla Firefox for your dedicated browser. Microsoft has a way of screwing with the software just when you're getting used to it, so you might want to not update your OS as long as you can prevent it. If you haven't already, get yourself a good IR mouse and throw your mouse in the trash, especially if it's the hard wire type. A wireless keyboard is nice, but what ever you decide on, just make sure you save any boot disks for your peripherals in case you have a bios conflict. Make sure you completely shut down your hard drive every time you load any new software so that the registry can put it where and how it belongs. That will help prevent any system lockups. Additionally, Vista, like XP, has a self help section you can go to to ask for help with problems. Left click on the start button and then look for the search or the help and support links. Like jeff said, it may take a little getting used to, but mostly it'll do what you want it to, once you understand what it's doing!

I've had many types of computer starting with the old compaq portable that had about the memory of a 3x5 floppy and came in a case the size of a sewing machine. I've never had the problems you seem to be having. But, I've never had a Dell. The problems usually come when you go from one Windows system to an upgrade, not when you get a new computer with a new system. I'd call Dell's customer service and have them run me through the solution. If you're having problems with their new Windows Vista system you probably aren't the only one they've had call. They might have a quick fix to download for you.

You might have to delete your DateHookup.com and reload it. It might take a different download for Vista.

Good luck, Jenny. Vista take a while to get used to, but it has it's ups. I didn't see if your computer was HP or Dell? There might be a store close that you can stop in & talk to someone like the Geek Squad @ Best Buy? Good luck!

Vista doesn't give you the "save as" option, so you have to actually open them in an application and then save them to a folder you can name. Confused the crap out of me as I email a lot of work between my office and home. I was wondering where it was going when I saved it...well, it was going back to the original email attachment. Nutty!

By the way, I love Dell computers. Had lots of different ones except Apple and Dell has been the best so far. I'm typing on a Toshiba $1600 laptop that was a major pain in the butt from day one. There is probably nothing wrong with your Dell.

Well jennyann, My condolences! I've only had 1 Dell computer, a laptop with a pentium processor level 3, and even Dell didn't want it back! Offered to give it back for FREE, and they wouldn't take it. Buy yourself a HP with an AMD processor and you'll never look at anything else!! BTW, after my first call to Dell, and after they recorded my phone number, they would no longer answer when I called, but would inundate me with sales material urging me to BUY DELL! If it wasn't for the government, their biggest customer, Dell would probably be in line for a big bailout!!!!! No wonder govt workers stay pissed off all the time!!! Same old story all the time...........SYSTEM IS DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!Call back later!!!!

Jenny,
There is a replacement to the desktop for Vista that makes it look like XP. This might be the solution to your problem. Here is a link that shows how to change some of the look of the Vista desktop.
http://www.answersthatwork.com/Download_Area/ATW_Library/Windows_Vista/Vista__1-Configuring_Windows_Vista_with_the_Classic_View.pdf

You should be able to download that to your computer and print it out.
here is another link to the instructions that you can just view on line.

http://forums.techarena.in/customize-desktop/1114159.htm

Hope this helps.

If not get in touch with me and I'll see what else can be done.
