I thought that maybe I can get some help from someone who may read this post. I am a photographer. I photographed this parrot. Now I think there are all types of parrots. Is there anyone that can tell me what kind of parrot this is.

I also have another shot of this parrot posted on my Dreaming in North Carolina thread in the pictures forum.

Oh I meant to include a wonderful link full of info on this type of birdie. They also come in a pretty green color too.

Just copy and paste that address in your browser and you'll get info on the breed.

Thank You so much Nancy for answering that question. As a photographer I am always asked about what I am using as a subject. I am glad to have found an expert. Now I know something about the eclectus parrot. ... Thanks again!

I wouldn't say I'm an expert but I do know a little and can pretty much find info on any kind of parrot. Do you know how to determine the difference between a parrot and a regular bird? Parrots feet two toes that point forward and two toes that point towards the back. A non-parrot bird has 3 toes pointing forward and only one toe points back......think of a parrot and a chicken see the difference.

Thanks again for more info... Why is it that the parrot has that kind of foot? It can't be simply because it allows them to hold on to branches. Other birds can do that rather well also. So what would be the evolutionary benefit?

I've never did the research but in looking at the behaviors or the two I think it's probably more of a foraging/survival thing. A parrot's diet most often includes nuts, like brazil nuts that a normal bird, i.e. chicken, couldn't even begin to open, whereas with a parrot like my macaw, she holds it in her foot like a hand and uses her beak to crack it and retrieve the meat of the nut. Could be?
