| I was married for ten years, during that period i was stabbed, shot, hit, run over...Part of it was her illness, which now that we are divorced and she is on medication, she is just as nice and normal as the day we first met, lol.I was just curious, i know plenty of men that do the abusing, physical and mental. But how many men suffer the same abuse and not let it be known..........

| my EX's mother did that crap to her husband(s), her parents, and her kids.... quite a bit of physical, (throwing things at them, breaking their stuff, hitting them, etc) but mostly the emotional abuse. She is definatly diagnosed with some sort of mental illness but I have never been able to figure out 'what' the diagnosis is.
She seems to be on proper meds now. (she's in her 60's) But I'm no longer involved with that part of the family and I'm glad to be away from them.
Whats interesting is.... My ex's father actually married her 2 times... the 2nd time was because it was cheaper to be married to her than to pay child support for 6 kids. (And I assume she was acting normal again at the time.)
Dont make the mistake and remarry her. Move on.

| close friend going thru that now. stress so bad on him he's down to skin & bones. he's 2 "embarressed" 2 admit problem cause he's a guy. wish more people understood that abuse can go both ways. it bad enough 2 live thru it but worse if u can't get support from friends etc because of the old stupid double standard. last time i saw him he had 2 cracked ribs. glad 2 hear ur out of it & she got help. thats the only 2 break the cycle.

| I had a girl friend in the 90's that would hit, scratch, bite me and scream salior obcenities at me when she got mad. I was the son of a truck driver and she put my fathers mouth to shame.
It was really weird. I hated the way I felt. I wanted to kill her, just punch her lights out, but I couldn't bring myself to hit a women. I really started to worry that she would try to kill me one day. So I ended it. But that even took about a year. Only when I moved to Sydney did she leave me alone.
That crap puts men in a real bad situation. Now, there are guys who would hit back without a second thought. But I was taught not to hit women and some of the womem. The cops and other guys look at it and say you p*ssy!
But I've been with women that knew I wouldn't fight back and took advantage of it.
My motto is, You hit me and I'm gone, as you should be too!

| Great answer tecman....and its great you realize that its not a healty relationship. No one should ever put their hands on another person...man or woman. I've lived the abuse too...so glad I finally got out, but it took me longer, 18 years. It was good off and on, depending on what he was on at the time...then when the bad times far outweighed the good ones...I left. I feel like we all have to do what is right for us....live our own lives. I just pray someone reading this realizes...that is not love. That its a sickness and when you get help, you realize the difference. Leaving was the best thing I could have done....for me life gets better everyday...can't say the same for him, I pray for him to find help everyday and overcome his addictions..... JMO....big hugs....Dragon

| I have known women that beat up on men, or just try to get them to fight, I am not that way, and I am sorry that anyone has to deal with all that. Try not to let it turn you from all of us.

| My one and only Ex was Bi-Polar. She hid it well for about two years, then all hell broke loose. Her negative side was violently physical and verbal. In nearly an instant, she became a vile person no one knew or understood. More than once I found myself looking down the barrel of a loaded gun. I am fortunate to be among the living.
Much, much later, medication did help her. But the damage over so many years was too great to overcome. I think she finally has some peace now........ I am still looking for mine......, as regards True Friendship and Love...... with a woman.

| Yes I have as well. And like the gentleman before me mine was also bipolar, had OCD and who knows what else and hid it very well for awhile...she would hit me even in front of my daughter...which in turn my daughter would say "Dad, why do you let her do that? Why don't you hit her back?" I told her that under no circumstances should a man hit a woman and that I am a big boy and can take it and it didn't hurt anyway etc... I do believe medications can sometimes help something like this, but if they will not take it, then most likely it will never get better...and quite frankly..while I believe a man or woman should not be physically abusive to the other...it is and would be kind of a blow to the ego or kind of humiliating for a man to call the police and tell them that they are getting beaten on by a woman...at least that is the way I looked at it and just walked away instead. Maybe not the correct thing to do, but it was a much better choice than retaliation in my opinion.
